The Director of the Center for Student Engagement
promotes student involvement and furthers community on campus while
linking academics with co-curricular activities.
This position represents student co-curricular involvement as
an institutional priority in a variety of contexts, supervises the
access to, and allocation of student organization benefits, works
with faculty and student advisory boards and advises students. The Director provides strategic leadership and management of
a department of nine full-time program staff members, three
part-time graduate assistants and one full-time support staff
member plus several student staff members.
The Center for Student Engagement encompasses program support
for: student organizations, outdoor education, intercollegiate
policy debate, orientation and first-year experience, family
engagement programs, student media, student government, club
sports, major campus programs, and campus leadership programs. The Director is responsible for overseeing budgets,
operations, administrative management, and assessment. This person
is expected to set exemplary standards of practice for advising
students, developing student leadership values and skills,
innovating programs and services, and engaging a wide-variety of
stakeholders in support of co-curricular learning.
The person in this position plays a key leadership role in the
Center for Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs. This person must show thoughtful and informed leadership on
issues facing practitioners in contemporary higher education,
including equity, inclusion and social justice on college campuses;
the balance between respecting freedom of speech and support for
community; and strategies for promoting health and well-being
through social engagement. The role requires a person with
strong background in student development and leadership theory as
well as the ability to translate theory to practice. The successful
candidate will be able to balance conceptual priorities with
practical logistics and attention to detail, the ability to
multi-task, the ability to be flexible and responsive to a variety
of situations, and a genuine interest in working with students and
staff across the university. This position will report to the
Assistant Dean in Student Affairs.

The Center for Student Engagement is a fast-paced, high-energy
environment. Student contact is extensive and substantive. Staff
members work collaboratively within the office and with many other

and work irregular or extended hours during peak programming times.
