Position Description Summary:

The Safety Coordinator III assists the Division Leader in enforcing and regulating all safety procedures to ensure that Southland Industries meets all safety requirements in the field and all facilities by managing and coordinating all division safety activities.

What you'll do:

  • Provide leadership and direction in establishing and achieving a meaningful health and safety vision and effective strategies through management commitment and employee ownership.
  • Ensure change is identified and proactively effectively managed.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting, and conducting various programs and activities related to the safety management system.
  • Provide assistance to project management personnel to ensure compliance with all safety accident and fire programs, procedures and policies.
  • Support a strong safety culture by reviewing activities and verifying company safety standards, policies, and procedures are being complied with.
  • Audit systems, procedures, and practices to ensure effectiveness; maintain compliance systems.
  • Advise job sites regarding compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements.
  • Conduct safety training, testing, and record keeping for all employees (HazCom, Fall Protection, Energized electrical work, lockout/tagout, etc.)
  • Assist management with guidance on how to complete tasks safely.
  • Coordinate on and approve work plans for critical tasks.
  • Resolve all safety issues that arise from employees and company managers.
  • Perform comprehensive, in-depth investigations, of all injury and loss incidents,
  • identify all causal factors, develop and implement measures to prevent recurrence, and follow up to ensure long-term resolution.
  • Coordinate with company management team to ensure all safety requirements are identified, communicated to employees, and fulfilled.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, and Environmental Applied Sciences or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Safety related experience including health and safety management systems, auditing safety processes, and in-depth knowledge of the laws, regulations, policies, procedures and practical application governing Safety in the workplace.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to train others (individual and groups).
  • CHST, CSP, or ASP certification is required.
  • OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training, and OSHA 500 certification is required.
  • Certifications in CPR and First Aid.
  • 30% travel within the US.
