About this job

Responsible for checking new or revised CAD drawings utilizing of drafting, design, and manufacturing processes fundamentals and GD&T knowledge. This includes interpreting customer’s new drawing or engineering change requests, standards, specifications and other instructions as applicable. In addition, the checker must have the ability to evaluate component manufacturability with regard to fit, form and function.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Package Preparation:
  • Review customer/requester instructions and information provided
  • Communicate regularly with engineering and requester
  • Meet with engineering, as needed, to clarify drawing requirements and/or resolve drawing issues
  • Communicate new drawing scope of work to the Drafting Manager
  • Provide complete package to Drafting Manager for quoting
  • Assist in quoting process
  • Communicate with Drafter to initiate detailing process as needed
Checking:
  • Check drawing to applicable customer and/or industry standards
  • Apply appropriate manufacturing process to the development of the drawing
  • Notify Drafting Manager of any problem arising during checking
  • Work to complete drawing within estimated hours and commit date - notify Drafting Manager if drawing cannot be completed within estimated hours and/or by the commit date
  • Verify CAD model to drawing on complex parts to ensure part is fully defined
  • Record quality performance of Drafter to established standards
  • Review reason for returned drawing from customer and ensure corrections are made by Drafter
Mentoring:
  • Educate drafters in best practices for setting up drawings as needed
  • Encourage drafters toward continuous improvement in clarity and accuracy of drawings
  • Educate Drafters on where to find and how to use customer Engineering Standards
  • Refine Drafter’s knowledge and understanding of GD&T practices
    • Remind Drafters to proactively strengthen their weak areas of knowledge for future career growth
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  • Revises detailed drawings and assemblies by applying established drafting, design and engineering standards and practices with technical data as necessary
  • Checks to insure drawing accuracy and clarity, including compliance with customer standards and specifications
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of view geometry, manufacturing processes, drafting symbology, dimensioning standards, bill of material information and notations necessary for component or assembly production
  • Performs assembly component stack-up analysis as necessary
  • Comprehension and application of project lifecycle requirements including project commitment dates, cost objectives, quality objectives and project documentation
  • Commitment to thoroughly complete company and/or customer documentation in a timely fashion including timesheets, job tracking logs, job note databases, travelers, checklists, and customer required status and tracking in their web application log
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in checking engineering drawings developed through CAD software
  • Knowledge and understanding of ASME Y14.5M-1994 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of component and assembly design practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of inspection methods
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memorandums
  • Ability to write simple technical and informative correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information to other employees of the organization
  • Ability to analyze and effectively problem solve difficult design/drawing issues either independently or collaboratively with customer and/or vendor in a diplomatic manner as necessary
  • Willingness to ask questions and secure necessary information to insure customer satisfaction
  • Ability to work efficiently and establish credibility with both customers and coworkers
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and set a high standard of quality in the workplace
  • Self-motivated with the ability to operate independently, work proactively, and to achieve results without close supervision
  • Ability to use a personal computer for work functions as necessary
  • Ability to be flexible according to workload as established by management
  • Ability to identify and handle priority and/or sensitive issues with discretion and confidentiality
