Salem Health is currently seeking a talented Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team!

Demonstrates ability to scrub all variety of cases while maintaining good aseptic technique and displaying knowledge of the use of instrumentation and equipment. Participates, as appropriate, in orientation of new personnel and assists other members of the health care team.

Minimum Qualifications Include:
Qualified Candidates must possess at least 1 of the following:

Education and Certification

(A) Provides the health care facility with documentation showing that the person has completed an educational program for surgical technologists accredited by a national accreditation organization approved by the Oregon Health Authority by rule; and

(B) Holds and maintains a surgical technologist certification issued by a nationally accredited certifying organization for surgical technologists approved by the authority by rule;

Completed US Military Surgical Technologist Training Program

(A) Provides the health care facility with documentation showing that the person has completed a training program for surgical technologists in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; and

(B) Every two years completes 16 hours of continuing education approved by the authority; or

Grandfathering

(A) Provides the health care facility with documentation showing that the person practiced surgical technology during at least two of the three years immediately preceding January 1, 2017:

(i) In a health care facility in Oregon or in another state; or

(ii) As an employee of an agency or institution of the federal government; and

(B) Every two years completes 16 hours of continuing education approved by the authority."

  • One (1) year prior Surgical Technologist experience preferred, not required.
  • Requires BLS from the AHA.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Include:

    • Communication and human relations skills; ability to relate positively with others.
  • Commensurate with educational preparation and area of assignment, demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet the specific needs of patients.

    Core Job Functions Include:

    • Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique by adhering to Salem Health policies and procedures relating to asepsis; functions as a role model for others.
  • Demonstrates the ability to scrub all varieties of cases and seeks opportunities to increase own knowledge when possible.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the care and processing OR equipment and assists with the care of special items.
  • Willingly assists in the orientation of new personnel, teaching instrumentation and draping for a variety of cases.
  • Effectively assists in patient care duties in assigned room when not in the scrub role.
  • Utilizes unassigned time without direction by assisting Surgical Assistants and others in the department as needed.
  • Demonstrates competency in delivery of care based on the patient care plan. Performs nursing skills following Salem Hospital policies and procedures utilizing appropriate resources and demonstrates knowledge of age-specific behaviors when caring for patients.

    Working Conditions Include:

    Frequently lift & carry 1-10 pounds & use of arms/wrist.
    Constant standing, moving about work area, walk-level surface, & manual dexterity (grasping/squeezing).
    Includes exposure to weather, heat, cold, chemicals, etc, unusual shifts, etc.

    Ability to work “on-call” as scheduled.
