I. Job Summary:

The Operations Coach is a leadership position that is found in each Operations area of the Millwork building: e.g., Exterior, Interior, Shipping, Prefinish, and Cabinets. The Coach is responsible for leading a team to safely achieve its productivity goals. The Coach staffs the team, making sure all positions are covered, and that the team has what it needs to be successful. The Coach is responsible for overseeing the Team Members’ training, and evaluates the Team Members’ performance.

II. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


• Manage labor and monitor Team Member process to ensure accuracy • Fill-in for missing Team Leads or Team Members when needed
• Facilitate Team Members’ efforts to achieve production targets
• Monitor current production rates, and post hourly on production status boards within department
• Oversee production to meet quality standards
• Re-allocate resources to other areas of facility when needed with the help of the Team Lead; request additional resources when needed
• Continually check with teams and with other coaches to determine if additional help needed; Meet with other coaches at designated times and determine plan for remainder of day
• Assign and delegate tasks to Team Lead as needed
• Monitor use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Monitor proper use of hand tools, power tools, power equipment and palletizer equipment
• Perform daily tasks, including: Mailbox check (if assigned), Attendance messages/reports, PACE paperwork, Department meeting and discuss new business, and Production report issued one day ahead to plan production
• Troubleshoot any issues on production line and find root cause
• Manage labor costs and budget and develop standard metrics for each production position
• Ensure equipment functions properly; arrange repairs with maintenance
• Utilize Warehouse Management System (WMS - Lowe’s system):
• Allocate to store (ready to ship)
• Tag bad doors
• Pull parts if necessary
• Open truck
• Scan out of location
• Scan onto truck
• Enter seal #
• Complete truck (scan all products on truck)
• Complete production paperwork
• Enter day’s production statistics into computer system
• Operate powered equipment when needed
• Maintain certification as needed to operate equipment
• Coordinate cross-training for Team Members in other areas so that they can be assigned to other areas.
• Monitor team dynamics
• Diffuse potential conflicts quickly
• Re-assign team members to other positions to maintain productivity rhythm
• Coordinate set up of slabs and parts for next day’s work
• Assign Team Member to On-the-Job Training Instructor (OJTI) to train and mentor employee on specific skills
• Ensure Team Lead or OJTI trains on WMS (peer to peer) – no manuals or job aids
• Ensure employees are directed to take required tests in LLC (skills and power equipment)
• Ensure proper paperwork is turned in daily for attendances and absences

III. Additional Duties and Responsibilities:


• Input cut-down list into computer and give to parts puller • Establish target times for Special Shop output
• Generate parts lists for Special Shop [and exterior cells] to set-up Team Member
• Stage picked materials to produce 4-5 truckloads for the following day
• Collect pick list and tickets and provide to warehouse for picking
• Ensure proper color coded tags are used so that outbound shipments are loaded and meet delivery dates
• Verify Load Plan (truckload) used daily to load outbound shipments.
• Facilitate Shipping Lead meeting (if applicable at facility)
• Manage less than load (LTL) trailer shipment loading
Verify shipping paperwork completed as necessary (bring to Admin Office so bills of lading and packing lists can be made)
• Participate in Leadership Development training sponsored by the Operations Manager
