Job Summary

The HITS Enterprise Infrastructure division secures, manages, and architects Michigan Medicine data centers, networks, and communication infrastructures. The team is responsible for all Michigan Medicine IT-related technical infrastructure, including data centers and communication facilities; wired, wireless, and in-house cellular networks; spectrum management; communication; complex device management; fiber/wiring plant; hosting; directories, databases, and storage; and continuity of operations institution-wide. The team collaborates with partners across Michigan Medicine to assure the security, stability, reliability, scalability, and economic management of the institution's technology infrastructure.

HITS Storage Services is responsible for the implementation of enterprise storage for Michigan Medicine. We have roughly 16 PB of SAN and 8 PB of NAS disk that we manage today. The growth in NAS is accelerating, and we are seeking to expand our filesystem administration group within the storage services team.

Responsibilities*

We seek a person with strong filesystem administration skills to work as an Applications Programmer/Analyst. They would be supporting the enterprise filesystems that are used by departments within Michigan Medicine for clinical, business, and research needs, which are housed on multiple NetApp and Isilon NAS arrays. Working with storage engineers they would help design solutions and offerings that would meet customer needs.

Responsibilities to include:

* Advise Michigan Medicine (MM) customers on File System storage requirements, including current usage, forecasting, and alternative solutions. Help new customers translate their current local solutions into current enterprise offerings. Establish and document best practices that should be followed by customers to allow storage solutions to scale and remain manageable. Work with other HITS teams to allow for a better understanding of offerings and improve workflows around new requests.

* Design system architecture to develop a sustainable enterprise file system infrastructure. Keep informed on technological advances in file system storage solutions. Make recommendation on future solutions that will better meet the needs of the MM community.

* Break/Fix: File System Problem identification, resolution, and root-cause analysis

* Support MiShare services including: product lifecycle management, installation, implementation, monitoring patch management, security management, performance/availability management and monitoring

* Participates in activations and extensions of the file system, including upgrades, implementation of new features, functions and software components, as well as ongoing end user support.

* Research and recommend tools that contribute to the development and compliance of file system storage management best practices.

Required Qualifications*

Intermediate level requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years relevant experience, or combination of education and equivalent work experience.

* Experience administrating multi-petabyte enterprise NAS environments

* Understanding of Microsoft NTFS and active directory as it pertains to storage filesystem rights management

* Understanding of how to modify access control lists (ICACLS)

* Experience with third party NAS permissions, quota, auditing, and capacity utilization tools desired

* Know best practices around identity and group memberships

* Understanding of CIFS, NFS, NetApp, and Isilon technologies

* Ability to design, develop and document technical solutions.

* Strong problem and troubleshooting skills.

* Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.

* Knowledge of storage best practices.

* Ability to analyze and document complex business processes.

* Positive approach to problem solving and ability to develop technical and business strategies.

* Ability to work and prioritize tasks in a fast moving and dynamic environment.

* Appropriately seek guidance from more experienced analysts as necessary.

* Ability to work under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment within scope of responsibility.

Associate level requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree and 1-2 years relevant experience, or combination of education and equivalent work experience.
