About this job
Fabricator is responsible for operating and maintaining fabrication equipment. Metal fabrication is the building of the structures by cutting and bending the material. Cutting is done by sawing, shearing, and chiseling with both manual and machined. Bending is done by machines including manual brake, roll form, iron worker, lathe, and drill presses.
100% of the time basic fabrication techniques include:
- Cutting (80%): sawing, shearing, and chiseling using all with manual and powered variants: torching with hand-held torches (such as oxy-fuel torches or plasma torches) and hand held saws.
- Bending (10%): hammering (manual or powered) or via press brakes and similar tools.
- Assembling (10%): joining of the pieces by welding, binding with adhesives, riveting, threaded fasteners.
Majority of this position will be fabrication technique of cutting and operating hand held band saw.
