Job Title: Patient Account Representative - Medical Biller

Hours: Can work any hours between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm as long as you get your 40 hours in

Pay: $21-23

Location: St. Paul, MN

Position:

  • This is a 6 month contact assignment with strong potential to go permanent. If they are interested in becoming permanent, they will need to apply internally

Start Date: 3/12

Work Environment:

  • The team includes about 22 (17 permanent and 4 temps). There are quiet and louder personalities. People typically group up with 2-3 individuals but the work can be done very independently. It is overall a quieter work environment.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of medical billing experience. This can be from a clinic, hospital, or insurance/payer.
  • High School Diploma

Job description:

  • Taking calls from patients and families regarding billing questions or concerns.
  • Working collaboratively with other departments within the Revenue Cycle to resolve claim submission issues, claim denial issues and instigate the claim appeal process with the appropriate areas.
  • Acts as primary person to submit claims to Payers as assigned:
  • Overall knowledge of government and/or third party payer regulatory requirements, timely filing guidelines and payment methodology.
  • Reviews an electronic claim for completeness before releasing the claim, when required.
  • Utilizes several billing system/products to complete claim submission and review payer acceptance of the claim(s).
  • Account Follow-up and review/Collector Worklists:
  • Reviews facility account on any claim that has been submitted to the Payer for adjudication; if no payment, adjustment or denial received within 90 days.
  • Calls Payers to get clarification on delinquent or delayed claim processing.
  • Notes all "account" activity in PA Notes in System.
  • Re-bills or re-files claims as necessary and only when necessary.
  • Works with other staff and departments as necessary to resolve claim issues and/or files appeals on denied claims.
  • Consistently spends time working in collector worklists to resolve accounts.
  • Processes hospital receivables in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Checks the Remittance Advice System for EOB information when necessary.
  • Performs basic maintenance of patient accounts in the Affinity system.
  • Assessment of outstanding balances on assigned accounts to determine proper course of action required to obtain payment on accounts.
  • Follows-up on outstanding and delinquent accounts.
  • Demonstrates understanding and ability to apply patient accounting policies and procedures.
  • Patient/Guarantor Contact and Customer Service:
  • Serves as a patient advocate during the cycle of the account.
  • Interviews patient and/or family members to obtain accurate information when necessary to resolve the balance on an account.
  • Answers patient and/or insurance phone inquiries; utilizes claims software to check status of claim, submission history and eligibility.
  • Educates and helps patients/guarantors understand their insurance benefits, EOB information and Guarantor Statement information.
  • Takes telephone calls regarding Patient Feedback issues, completes the appropriate forms and forwards to our Patient Advocate for resolution.
