WINTER PARK RESORT OVERVIEW

Opened in January of 1940, Winter Park Resort is the oldest continuously operating resort in the U.S., and located just 67 miles NW of Denver, is the closest major ski resort to the City. Owned by the City and County of Denver, and managed by Alterra Mountain Company, Winter Park is part of the rich history and tradition of Denver mountain parks, and is also one of Alterra’s premier destination resorts in North America. Winter Park’s traditions are deeply rooted in railroad, logging, and the early exploration of Grand County and the local Fraser Valley.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Group Sales Manager is responsible for soliciting, negotiating and selling year-round group business in assigned geographic territory or market segment. This position will have two primary areas of focus: 1. Drive overnight social group business including weddings, family reunions and other social groups which meet the established ADR and RPV targets for the assigned segment. 2. Drive day group business, selling lift, rental, ski school products and other ancillary products not including lodging.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (General)
  • Possess a high level of organization, and ability to manage a high volume of inbound sales leads.
  • Possess thorough knowledge and understanding of Winter Park products and the group market segment.
  • Respond to email and voicemail leads within 24 hours
  • Maintain positive and productive relationships with internal departments and operations, including, but not limited to: front desk, reservations, ski school, rentals, racing, food and beverage, conference services, and group services.
  • Conduct professional property and on-mountain site inspections for prospective clients.
  • Meet or exceed monthly/quarterly/yearly sales goals.
  • Communicate regularly with Director of Sales & Revenue Management via scheduled 1:1 meetings, written reports, or informal interactions.
  • Understand the strategic direction set forth by revenue management and use it to guide sales activities.
  • Communicate regularly with divisional partners including Lodging ,F&B, Ski & Ride School, and rentals on group arrivals and logistics.
  • Proficient use of sales/catering account management system (Delphi), reservations system (SMS), Hubspot (CRM) and Microsoft systems (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • Understand and support mission and values of Sales Division, Winter Park and Alterra Mountain Company.
  • Exhibit initiative, responsibility and accountability for all actions.
  • Exhibit strong team play within Sales Department and the larger Sales and Marketing division.
  • Deliver a high level of guest service to each and every client and internal customer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Weddings)
  • Manage all sales activities within the wedding channel including lead generation, communications with prospective wedding parties, site tours, and contracting.
  • Communicate wedding event schedules and details to appropriate internal departments, specifically lodging and food and beverage.
  • Coordinate smooth handoff to Group Services operations team and F&B.
  • Manage weddings@winterparkresort.com email and wedding inquires on a daily basis, follow up (x3) on qualified leads.
  • Coordinate with marketing team to ensure brochures, website and print media are up to date and in line with wedding brand.
  • Assist in the development of the wedding marketing plan
  • Manage and update 3rd party lead generation profiles
  • Maintain an updated wedding guide with all F&B menus, lodging details and operations for wedding events.
  • Maintain professional relationships with 3rd party vendors and wedding planners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Social Groups)
  • Prospect and sell overnight social groups for all seasons. Target off-season and mid-week groups for incremental “white space” occupancy
  • Execute contract and initial booking details. Coordinate smooth handoff to Group Services operations team.
  • Maintain professional, productive relationships with group leaders to drive repeat business from existing groups as well as new business through affiliated new groups.
Essential Duties (Day Groups)
  • Field all inbound leads, provide quick and accurate information on products, and process orders for ancillary products including lift tickets, Ski & Ride School, Rentals and F&B.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS (state minimum required and preferred)

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years sales experience (preferably in a lodging or resort environment).
  • Proven experience managing a large volume of inbound leads with a high level of conversion.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Adaptability, capable of multitasking
  • Capable of working productively with minimal direct supervision
  • Intermediate or better Ski/snowboard skills required
  • Ability to accommodate moderate travel schedule if needed
  • Strong computer skills/Microsoft Word, Power Point, Delphi, Hubspot
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings/weekends
  • Superior organizational and follow-up skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Office Environment:
  • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling on an occasional basis.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
