Description:
The Network Administrator II is responsible for the administration and support of campus data networks, switches, firewalls, routers, phone system and associated support systems. Administration and support includes using network and telecom management and monitoring tools, installation.
Responsibilities:
- Provide primary technical administration of enterprise switches
- Provide primary technical support and maintenance of campus fiber (single and multi-mode), Cat6, Cat5e, coaxial and voice cable systems
- Provide secondary technical administration of Cacti and Nagios monitoring software
- Provide secondary technical administration for Checkpoint Firewalls
- Provide secondary technical administration for Avaya Communication Manager and Aura Messaging systems
- Provide primary technical support for security camera system hardware including Panasonic and Axis
- Provide technical support for Blackboard card access and laundry system hardware
- Provide secondary technical administration of Aruba wireless devices, wireless controller, and ClearPass system
- Provide technical administration of user access and security utilizing Windows Active Directory, LADAP, and Radius
- Participation in 24x7 on-call support is required
- Provide technical support to faculty and staff as needed
- Supervise student interns
- Provide to Manager of Infrastructure & Client on campus wide infrastructure related projects such as building remodels, new construction and campus infrastructure expansion projects
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs and be capable of working while standing or crawling for extended periods
- Perform additional duties as needed
Education and/or Experience:
- BS in computer or network related field preferred
- Minimum of five years of hands-on technical experience in a Network Administration role, with proven experience in infrastructure related project management and infrastructure support
- Administration of Avaya Passport 8600 series switch
- Administration of Avaya ERS 5600, 5500, 4500, 4800, and 2500 series switches
- Administration of Avaya CM and AAM voice systems
- Proficiency working with TCP/IP, SNMP, 802.11, VoIP, and PoE • Fluke WAN, LAN, WLAN and cable analyzers
Candidates should have experience in three or more of the following areas: • Proficient with Windows based virus and root-kit removal tools
- CheckPoint firewall administration
- Windows Server administration
- Network administration in a mixed server environment
- Network and application performance analysis
- Light scripting abilities
- Proficient with the tools required for security breach detection, remediation and analysis
- Infrastructure related project management
- Must possess valid drivers' license and be insurable under the University's insurance plan
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Possess strong customer service skills
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and exceptional attention to detail
- Candidates must be willing and able to support and advance the University mission.
