Job Description

The OSM trade in modular construction consists of, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Layout work to make ready for drilling/machining, assembly and installation of components into modules that will eventually become working parts of a nuclear submarine
  • Requires the use portable drilling and boring equipment
Education/ Experience

Semi-Skilled/Skilled position:
  • 3 years of Machine shop, millwright or mechanical assembly experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment is desired
  • Previous metal fabrication or milling experience and military shipbuilding experience preferred
  • High school diploma/GED preferred; additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Must possess strong math skills
  • Military/Navy experience preferred
Skills

Applicant must be granted a minimum of an interim secret clearance prior to position commencing. They must be able to obtain and maintain a final secret clearance to remain in that position.
  • Must possess basic mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work all shifts, heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
  • Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals
  • Applicant must be able to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
  • Must use precision measuring tools, such as micrometers, dial indicators, vernier calipers, height gauges
  • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
  • Must be capable to perform basic layout functions
  • Must be capable of using various precision instruments along with basic machining/milling tools
