Medical Billing Specialist

Northwest Respiratory Services is looking for a Private Insurance Billing Specialist to join our team in Bloomington, MN.

HOURS: Monday-Friday (40 hours a week) with occasional weekends and overtime as needed

*Ability to choose one of the following schedules after training is approved and completed:

8 hours per day, 5 days a week

9 hours per day, 4 days a week and 4 hours on the 5th day – rotating schedule

10 hours per day, 4 days a week with the 5th day off – rotating schedule

Basic Responsibilities based on Position:

• Gather and review medical documentation for qualifying coverage to ensure payment will be made
• Obtain, verify and maintain current insurance info to ensure proper and timely claim payment
• Review, correct and submit claims/invoices for payment
• Obtain Prior Authorizations as necessary by product line and payer
• Interpret denials/correspondence and work with insurance companies to receive payment
• Submit reconsiderations, redeterminations and appeals when applicable
• Utilize payer resources, web portals and customer service phone lines to communicate with payers regarding timely reimbursement and denials

Requirements based on Position:

• Able to work independently and in a team atmosphere
• Professional written and verbal communication skills
• Typing speed of 40+ WPM
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail a must
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, co-workers, management personnel and others
• Maintain thorough understanding of different insurance contracts/payers we handle and keep abreast of any changes with these contracts
• Background in billing Oxygen Equipment, Respiratory Equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, Vents) and Negative Pressure Wound Therapy is preferred
• Experience with invoicing or billing nursing homes directly for services is beneficial
• History working with Brightree billing software is desired

Required Experience:

• DME, Medicare and/or MN Medicaid Policy and Insurance or Facility Billing based on position: 2 years
• Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word and Excel
