Position Overview:

This position provides overall direction and leadership for clinical and operational services for assigned departments. Functions as a leader in healthcare and as part of the healthcare team. The Director is responsible for providing effective management development and assuring accountability in the provision of financially responsible, quality patient care that consistently meets/exceeds the expectations of patients, families, physicians, and staff. This position works closely with the medical directors, as well as the nurse managers, coordinators and clinical leads of assigned departments to ensure multi-disciplinary teams/staff provide high quality, accessible, cost effective care and patient focused services. Develops and maintains clinical standards of care and nursing practice. Responsible for all resource budgeting and development within the assigned departments.

Essential Functions:
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of clinical and managerial oversight and demonstrates fiscal responsibility for assigned departments.
  • Manages the delivery of clinical services in assigned departments through direct reports, which meet or exceed cost, quality, utilization and clinical standards as well as meet performance measures. Ensures that these services meet patient, physician, and staff needs in a changing, competitive health care market.
  • Collaborates with health and community resources to assure appropriate care transitions pre- and post-acute care and support population health strategies.
  • Responsible for the preparation and management of budgets for assigned departments in cooperation with the Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Clinical Officer.
  • Develops strategic/business plans to achieve an integrated continuum of care/services both within and outside of the department.
  • Manages and ensures continuous improvement of all clinical practices, services, and operations by designing and implementing systems, processes, and methods to evaluate and improve patient care and efficiency within assigned departments and across the continuum of care.
  • Responsible for proper utilization of Human Resources. Works in conjunction with nurse managers to determine the appropriate staff-mix for the assigned departments. Assists and develops nurse managers on solid processes for screening, interviewing, hiring, orienting and maintaining competency of all staff within their departments. Assures same for all direct reports.
  • Researches and implements best practices, leading teams on improving performance and outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Current licensure as Registered Nurse in Colorado.
  • Education: BSN required, Master's in Nursing or related field is preferred.
  • Training and experience: Previous management experience required. Experience at the Director level preferred. Minimum 5 years of recent clinical or direct oversight experience in Critical Care, Trauma or Emergency Nursing required. Must be BCLS certified. ACLS required within 6 months of hire. Professional certification in one specialty area preferred.
