AAPA is a thriving association that works to represent members in the growing PA field. 50 years ago 3 PAs graduated from a single program at Duke University, now PAs are 115,000 strong, and the profession is expected to grow another 30 percent through 2024. PAs are integral to modern healthcare and provide a solution to the demand for increased access to cost-effective, evidence-based, patient-centered care. Our members care about providing their patients with the best possible care, and those values are central to the association.

The Director, Commercial Health Insurance will work to build relationships with the major commercial payers, and advocate for policies that fully recognize and include PAs. The Director should have a level of expertise and interpersonal abilities that enable him or her to develop relationships, understand complex policies, and educate industry leaders.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional communicator able to immerse him or herself in the complex world of healthcare reimbursement and then clearly articulate ongoing progress and challenges. He or she will possess a genuine passion for and understanding of the importance of this work both for PAs and for the greater healthcare system.

He or she will have the opportunity to:
  • Develop and recommend strategies and approaches to ensure that PAs are fully recognized as participating healthcare professionals by commercial insurance companies.
  • Represent AAPA and interact with senior level officials with commercial insurers and related stakeholders and establish ongoing working relationships.
  • Provide presentations and participate in AAPA meetings.
  • Research and write reports, resource documents and articles on policies related to third party payment and coverage policies.
