Job Description

Hampton Inn San Diego/Del Mar is now accepting applications for a General Manager who will manage all aspects of the hotel operations.  Ideal candidate will have Hampton or affiliated Hilton brand experience with the Hilton OnQ and GRO systems and previous experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager.

SUMMARY

Manages the overall hotel operations and management team by providing leadership and strategic planning to all departments in support of excellence in guest service, maximized operations, and business profitability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Ensures full compliance to brand and company SOP’s, policies, procedures and service standards.
  • Personally handles customer complaints and sets an example to all staff regarding guest service interactions.
  • Manages on-going profitability of the hotel by reviewing daily financial transactions and monitoring budget to ensure efficient operations, and to ensure expenditures stay within budget limitations.
  • Responsible for overall revenue management strategy and implementation through room rate and inventory distribution and oversight of sales process.
  • Assists with new corporate and group client acquisition and maintenance of existing client relationships when necessary.
  • Reviews monthly profit and loss statements to ensure accuracy.  Prepares a monthly financial report for ownership.
  • Prepares and publishes revenue and expense forecasts on an ongoing basis.
  • Responsible for the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of the hotel's annual operating budget, sales plan, and capital projects. 
  • Sets additional short and long term strategic goals for the property as necessary.
  • Leads all key property improvements including capital projects and renovations.
  • Manages and develops subordinate department managers to ensure career progression and development.
  • Provides effective leadership to hotel team members.
  • Holds regular briefings and meetings with all heads of departments.
  • Oversees the procurement of operating supplies and equipment, and contracting with third-party vendors for essential equipment and services.
  • Performs onsite Accounting functions to include accounts receivable and payroll processing.
  • Performs onsite Human Resources functions to include hiring and separation, employee relations, training and development, and disciplinary action.
  • Maintains personnel records and HRIS information to ensure accuracy.
  • Responsible for ensuring hotel compliance with local and Federal laws, including Fair Labor Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, fire regulations, and other legal requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

OUTCOME

The General Manager is expected to lead, motivate, and educate department managers and hotel staff toward the successful completion of established goals while ensuring employee satisfaction through effective communication and follow through. The successful coordination of all aspects of the hotel operations will result in satisfied employees and guests and financial success of the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages subordinate managers who supervise employees in the Front Desk, Housekeeping, and Engineering departments. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments and the Sales department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education and/or Experience- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and business documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information in English to ownership and public groups, employees, and guests of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, yield ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Reasoning Ability- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- Must have a valid California Drivers License without any operation restrictions to be insured by the company for the purpose of operating company vehicles or a personal vehicle for company business.
  •  Other Skills and Abilities- Ability to use Computers (with software programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and the OnQ Property Management System and GRO Revenue Management System).

AVAILABILITY

This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. At times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed schedule as task assignments demand.  In addition, it should be understood that business needs determines the amount of hours that you work.
