 A successful Programming Specialist will have the following:

  • SQL skills – ad hoc data gathering requests will need to be done directly by the analyst and may not be able to use other existing data gathering resources.  SQL will be 25-50% of work
  • Must be very comfortable with Excel and manipulation of data in either Excel or Access
  • 1-2 years of work experience in the media/entertainment/OTT space a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively to interact cross-functionally and with outside parties
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Passion for the media industry and highly knowledgeable about current content
  • Familiarity with traditional and digital media technology a plus

The Programming Specialist will be responsible for utilizing data to analyze Content and Programming initiatives and provide recommendations on how to proceed.  This role will require a combination of data acquisition and analysis skills in order to provide recommendations to executives and other decision makers.  Time management, critical reading, analyzing various sources of information and effective communication will be essential skills for success in this role.  Position will also assist in setting the short- and long-term strategy for Sling TV programming through data analytics support.

 

Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  • Work cross-functionally across Sling TV to analyze Content and Programming initiatives
  • Analyze viewership data to discern trends and drivers behind viewership behavior. Use analysis to provide personalization and recommendation of content to subscribers
  • Work with data science and IT teams to help develop predictive viewership models
  • Assist with evaluating content placement, packaging, and acquisition by sourcing various data sets and providing thorough analysis and recommendations
  • Analyze and understand current trends in the OTT space, combining with data analysis to provide recommendations to all departments on how to improve the Sling product
  • Assist with programming negotiations using analysis and data
