DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking a Railroad Bridge Engineer to join our Chicago, IL location. A strong candidate would be a talented project structural engineer with a specialization in bridge design and rehabilitation, preferably with railroad specific bridge design and rehabilitation. The successful candidate will work with other offices on transportation and railroad projects for various Class I railroads, transit agencies and DOTs. Responsibilities will include:

· Railroad bridge design and detailing tasks incorporating AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering practices

· Design of highway bridges incorporating IDOT and CDOT practices and AASHTO LRFD Specifications

· Structural analysis and preparation of structural engineering calculations

· Bridge evaluations including inspections and load ratings

· Engineering investigations including feasibility and type studies with cost and risk analysis

· Use of advanced bridge analysis/design software including LEAP Products, MDX, MIDAS, etc.

· Preparation of construction plans using MicroStation

· Preparation of construction specifications

· Review of shop drawings

· Management of project deadlines for on-time submittals

· Excellent verbal, interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability

· Strong work ethic and ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team

· Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with clients

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred

· 6-8 years of related experience in bridge design; a Master’s Degree can be substituted for 1-2 years of experience

· Illinois PE license; candidates with PE/SE license preferred

· Strong bridge technical experience with the ability to complete projects on time and within budget

· Experience with Norfolk Southern Railroad bridge design strongly preferred

· Experience with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges

· Experience with IDOT and Illinois Tollway bridge projects is a plus

· Experience with new bridge projects and bridge rehabilitation projects

· Experience in Task Management

· Experience with office software and structural design/analysis software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MIDAS, MathCAD, MicroStation, AutoCAD, etc.
