Job Title: Extrusion Process Inspector
Reports To: Production Shift Supervisor
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Day Shift (44 hours per week)

Monday: 5:00am-1:30am

Tuesday-Thursday: 5:00pm-5:30am

SUMMARY
Inspects extruded tubing products for conformance to specifications and packages those
products by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following. Additional duties may be
assigned.
· Reviews job requirements on production traveler and selects proper inspection
tools such as pin gauges, micrometers, calipers, scales, wall thickness gauges, etc.
· Assists operator when possible selecting downstream equipment such as reelers,
automatic tension control stands, conveyors, roller stands, etc. as required and
positions on line for use when possible.
· Contructs Quality Assurance chart by entering the correct customer and product
information paying close attention to special instructions for deviations from
standard tolerances.
· Inspects extruded products for conformance to I.D., O.D., wall thickness, length,
roundness, and color specifications in accordance with standard inspection
procedures.
· Plots inspection results on Quality Assurance charts in accordance with standard
inspection procedures.
· Notifies extruder operator when nonconforming measurements are made or when
process is drifting out of allowable range.
· Examines extruded products for surface defects such as scratches, pitting, gels, or
other cosmetic defects and notifies operator if any are found.
· Examines cut to length-extruded products for the angle and quality of the cut in
accordance with standard inspection procedures.
· Compares product with reference samples when critical matching is required.
· Records accurate set-up and production start and end times on the production
traveler
· Updates the production schedule by highlighting the jobs on the schedule when
they are completed.
· Rejects nonconforming parts, properly identifies the rejected parts, and logs the
type of defect on the QA chart.
· Carefully packages extruded product in cartons or on reels to ensure correct count
and to protect product from dirt and damage in accordance with standard
packaging procedures.
· Operates reeling, cutting and pulling equipment in accordance with standard
operating procedures.
· Assists Extruder Operator and/or the Extrusion Utility Worker during job set-up
or tooling changeovers.
· Assists Extruder Operator when required with the start-up process including
helping string up the line.
· Makes boxes and production labels when needed.
HOUSEKEEPING RESPONSIBILITIES
Housekeeping responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following. Additional
housekeeping duties may be assigned.
· Maintains cleanliness of equipment and work area to ensure accuracy and safety.
· Keeps floor clear and free of non-conforming material by removing it to the
proper disposition container.
· Keeps work tables clean and free of clutter.
· Maintains schedule clipboard in a neat and orderly condition
· Completes tasks as directed at end of week shutdown on the weekly cleaning log.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
· This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or twelve months
related experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple
correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to plot data and read charts.
REASONING ABILITY
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished
in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several
variables in standardized situations.
