The succcesful  RF Engineer III will have:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in any math, science or physics related field and have 5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   
  • The job may require travel in support of other uplinks (estimated ~ 15% or less).
  • Requires ability to climb ladders and work at 50 foot heights in an aerial lift.
  • Able to work with mathematical concepts such as space segment link budget calculations, G/T analysis, and EIRP parameters.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Electronics or other related field
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to write reports, policies, and procedures
  • Able to conceptualize “big picture” operations, impact and relations to the earth station.
  • System level and bench level electronics troubleshooting experience.
  • Space Segment awareness of technology relationship with cause/effect recognition and signature analysis determination skill; as it relates to the signal technologies and the ground/space systems deployed to process those signals.

This team is comprised of experienced professionals dedicated to providing customers with an unparalleled level of service delivering content and programming to over 16 million subscribers every day.

 

 

DISH is currently seeking an Uplinks RF Engineer III at our uplink facility in Cheyenne, WY.  The RF Specialist is responsible for the ground-to-space segment specifications, analysis support, systems and deployment development, in support of operation of earth station transmission/reception systems and geosynchronous satellite link budgets. The scope of this job includes Radio Frequency (RF) analysis skills in addition to the procurement/integration and engineering analysis of the RF equipment used in a large scale satellite uplink center.

 

The position functions as the primary non-shift SME technical resource for technical reference and problem resolution for the DISH Technologies in direct support of the broadcast centers.


Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  • In Orbit Testing (IOT): Primary engineering resource for calibration data for the Cheyenne Full Motion antenna, assisting before, during and after the IOT campaigns with set-up, troubleshooting, rehearsals and shipping Antenna Pattern Testing: Performs basic analysis responsibilities as “cooperating earth station” for receive pattern testing.
  • Link Budget Analysis: calculates the basic earth station KPA or TWTA power levels required to meet a spacecraft flux density specifications/requirement. Calculates specific detail link budgets for user systems for power and receive requirements, to include antenna gain requirements, to meet a shared payload operations applications.
  • AutoCAD 3D modeling: produces simple 3D models of most earth station antennas; evaluating “perspective” for potential radiation blockage, physical travel obstruction and structural damage.
  • Earth Station Licensing: Primary DTC resource for supply the technical particulars (i.e. modulation parameters and EIRP) to Director & Senior Counsel, Regulatory Affairs in support of DISH & Terrestar earth station license renewals, modifications and new authorizations.
  • Frequency Coordination: Supports Legal and Accounting teams to provide technical detail and evaluation of interference analyses. Support of contracted external company and accounting teams; to contract for interference analysis, frequency coordination, and radiation hazard study when a new earth station authorization is required. Determines/tracks, relevant technical details (antenna location, size, modulation, EIRP, frequencies, geostationary arc coverage, etc.) and reports to DISH Regulatory Affairs. Technical interface between National Radio Astronomy Observatory and DISH Technologies in support of geographical proximity to the NRAO “quiet zone”.
