Job Summary

The Stamps School of Art & Design Pre-College Program is looking for several educators to join our staff this summer as Instructors.

Instructors play a critical role in the success of the Stamps Pre-College Program. Instructors develop a syllabus and instruct high school students in college-level art and design coursework. Instructors introduce participants to the rigor of studio art/design and engage with all students through demonstrations, group critique and personal guidance. Instructors will work with Instructional Assistants (IAs) to meet all program objectives in the classroom.

Instructors are responsible for the health and safety of all participants in the classroom and work in concert with all Pre-College staff to cultivate a supportive and creative learning environment. Instructors observe University of Michigan policy, the rules and protocols of the Stamps Pre-College Program and observe the Pre-College Program schedule.

We are looking for Instructors to support 8 sections of studio courses offered in each of our two residential programs, BFA Preview and Portfolio Prep (16 sections overall). Stamps Pre-College classes are specific to the objectives of each respective program. Classes survey fundamental approaches to art making through engagement with various media, content, skills and/or techniques.

Successful candidates will have experience teaching high school and/or college students in a comparable artistic discipline. Expertise in the course material is essential to the success of our program.

Candidates should indicate their availability and ability to instruct a specific class in a cover letter.
