Automation Software Test Engineer - Full-time / Part-time

Software Test Engineer will define test strategy, develop test plans and automated scripts, procedure and execute test cases to verify functionality of our Embedded and Application Software for real-time controls and protective relays used for smart grid applications in the electrical power distribution industry.

Job Description

• Analyze software, interface and system specifications to design concepts for an automated software test framework.
• Implement the test framework.
• Analyze software requirement to design and implement software scripts to automate test procedures, with the goal of reducing regression test times.
• Document test plans.
• Assist project lead/senior software engineer with the clarification of requirements to test cases traceability.
• Willing to learn and use current specific testing framework and tools.
• Where needed, research and recommend any value added test hardware tools.
• Potentially lead a small group of automated test engineers

Minimum Qualifications

• BSEE/ME/CE or MSEE/ME/CE and 3+ years hands-on experience in the design and development of automated test tools
• Experience using common scripting language such as Python(required) or Matlab(nice to have) for the creation of automated test cases.
• Understanding of common software verification and validation concepts, including functional, performance, regression testing, boundary conditions, positive and negative test cases, etc
• Nice to have - Experience using common programming languages use for GUI development such as VB or C#
• Ability to understand test tools manuals to automate communication protocols such as RS485, 232, USB, TCP, UDP
• Experience in designing and building test systems using either custom DAQ hardware or off the shelf hardware such as National Instruments
• Experience sourcing and integrating components into test systems
• Experience reading and interpreting system and software requirement to create test procedures, test cases, and test reports
• Nice to have - Knowledge in using test and measurement tools such as Oscilloscope, Function Generator, Network Analyzer, AC/DC, DMM
• Team player with ability to work in a highly cross-functional environment
• Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to professionally support periodic communication to management
• Ability to work independently to solve issues and self-manage time
• Experience with debugging tools such as oscilloscope and network analyzer.
