Avian Biologist

Two biologist needed for standardized avian use surveys (Avian point count surveys) in Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota. Biologist will need to provide own binoculars, suitable footwear, and appropriate field clothing.

Duties:

• Daily long-term observations of eagles and eagle nest activity
• Monitoring and maintenance of bat acoustic survey equipment
• Requires use of compass, global positioning system devices, binoculars, range finders, tablets, and digital cameras as well as ability to maintain equipment

Other details:

• Training will be provided for all survey efforts and job related activities
• Scientists will be required to follow all safety protocols for company and wind energy facilities
• Expected to use good judgment to stay safe and work efficiently
• Will receive reimbursement for rental vehicle or be provided rental vehicles
• Will receive all necessary equipment for surveys (Safety vest, hard hat, gloves, and safety glasses)
• Housing reimbursement or local housing and per Diem accommodations provided for overnight stays

Qualifications:

• Degree in wildlife biology or related natural resources discipline
• Must be proficient in the identification of: eagles, Midwest bird species by sight and sound, and bats of the central US.
• *Candidates experienced in field bird and bat identification is a plus*
• Ornithology experience
