We are a multi-disciplined planning and engineering firm that has an immediate opportunity for a Civil/Site Project Engineer in our Charlotte, NC office.

We are recognized as a leading provider of Land Development and Civil Engineering services for both Public and Private Facilities as well as a wide range of land development projects throughout NC and the Southeast. The candidate will work on producing site development documents for a variety of construction projects throughout NC.

Job Position:

This is an Engineering and production position, one requiring skills and experience in land development design and engineering. The Project Engineer will work with the Project Manager to develop design concepts which are incorporated in the final product. The Project Engineer may produce all of their own work or may pull from a pool of resources for production. As such, team building and management are also essential requirements. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated to begin assuming project management tasks.

Qualifications Include:

  • Must have 2-8 years of industry experience.
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is not required, but would be considered a plus.

Other Qualifications include:

  • Experience working with public agencies, private entities and/or municipalities.
  • Roadway and utility design experience.
  • Skilled in grading and earthwork management.
  • Ability to design Storm Drainage, Stormwater management and hydrology knowledge required.
  • Excellent communication and client relation skills, experience interacting with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders.
  • Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
  • Understanding and knowledge of applicable codes.
  • Accustomed to working in a team environment on challenging projects.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of advanced software appropriate for the discipline, showing proficiency in multiple programs specific for this role.
  • Demonstrate competent use of Civil 3D, Pond Pack, StormCAD & WaterCAD
  • Ability to work independently and develop task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Develop Concepts or schematic designs in concert with the Project Manager, including layout, grading, hydrology, utilities and erosion control.
  • Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials in an effort to assist the team by ultimately obtaining necessary permit approvals.
  • Research local/state regulations as they pertain to site plans (Code Study).
  • Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with project team to produce construction documents.
  • Preparing Site engineering drawings. Applicant should have a good understanding of Site planning and engineering and able to assemble full Construction Documents for Land Development.
  • Provide detailed plans and supporting calculations for storm water systems (piping, water quality, and detention facilities), utility systems, road profiles and sedimentation and erosion control plans.
  • Select and /or develop details which will be used on project.
  • Edit specification sections, compile project manuals.
  • Design elements/component of a project and demonstrate awareness of other elements in their design.
  • Compute quantities with an understanding of pay items, demonstrating an awareness of the relationship to specifications
  • May be called on to attend construction meetings and produce site inspections and reports when required.
  • Prepare addendum and change orders. Initiate additional service requests and turn over to Project Manager for submittal to client.
  • Prepare engineering opinion of probable cost for civil development and review contractor cost estimates.
  • Review drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design and production standards.
  • Use computer programs and spread sheets for engineering analysis and presentations.
  • Prepare regulatory permit applications, submit for permits, monitor submittals through the review process, and revise plans as needed to obtain approval from the permitting agency.
