Job Description:

Conceives, designs, builds, implements, documents, and troubleshoots equipment used to manufacture medical devices. Equipment ranges from manual fixtures to fully automated systems.

Primary responsibility is mechanical design and project management of the system. Job responsibilities and level are dependent on the experience level of the successful applicant (looking for 5-10 years of experience).

Job Functions:

* Mechanical design of automated fixtures and equipment. Create part, detail, and assembly drawings using 3-D modeling software (SolidWorks).

* Managing automation projects built by outside custom automation vendors including concept work, equipment specification, project management, factory acceptance testing, installation, and commissioning/debug.

* Build prototypes to prove complex/high-risk processes prior to final design.

* Work with Product Designers, Project Managers, and Manufacturing personnel to refine product and equipment designs.

* Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget while maintaining a high level of quality.

* Determine where opportunities exist to implement automation by working closely with Product Designers, Project Managers, and Manufacturing personnel.

* Provide direction to engineers and technicians assisting in the construction, troubleshooting, and documentation of equipment.

* As a staff technical specialist keeps abreast of new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new design programs warranted by such developments.

Education:

Educational experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field with six years previous related experience, a Master's Degree with four years previous related experience, or a Ph.D. with two years previous related experience.

Experience:

* Ability to independently apply analytical skills, complex scientific technical principles, and detailed knowledge in solving engineering problems and developing new products, techniques, or designs.

* Demonstrated computer skills preferably spreadsheets, word processing, database and other applicable software programs. Must have strong drafting skills, preferably with Solidworks.

* Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member.

* Working knowledge of the United States and international standards as applicable, such as OSHA, ANSI, CE, ISO, etc.
