The Staff Engineer for Testing and Systems Integration is a valuable member of BISSELL's Global Product Approval and Test team, which is responsible for design verification and validation of product across a wide array of engineering disciplines. This individual is responsible for generating robust strategies related to product testing, test plan sufficiency and depth of product analysis, with a specific emphasis on the integration of systems and technologies across various engineering disciplines within BISSELL's Global Product Development (GPD) process. A qualified Staff Engineer will lead integration efforts across many cross functional projects concurrently, leveraging both internal & external subject matter experts to ensure robust solutions are delivered in a timely manner.

 

POSITION PROFILE (Major duties, accountabilities, and responsibilities)

This position is directly or indirectly responsible for the following pertaining to testing and development of electro-mechanical products and concepts:

1) The Staff Engineer Testing and Systems Integration will provide engineering expertise and support to development teams and the Test Laboratory as well as lead the planning, development, and execution of Design Verification and Validation Test Plans supporting Global Product Development processes.

2) Initiates and manages the design, development, & implementation of technology research projects in support of best in class laboratory and engineering initiatives. Emphasis will be placed on integrating mechanical and electrical principles within projects that are complex and abstract in nature.

3) Plans, executes and disseminates learnings on research programs in support of product attribute development and development engineering activities as assigned/approved by direct line manager. Specific areas of focus include PCBA's, digital motors, batteries, sensors, etc. Will work with other engineering disciplines to accomplish said objectives.

4) Act as a mentor to BISSELL's engineering staff with respect to the integration of digital principles into mechanical designs, ensuring that basic design attributes are deeply rooted and well understood.

5) Establish strong relationships and open communication channels with key product development category leaders, such that integration objectives and laboratory research programs support future product roadmaps.

6) Lead the research, development, and documentation of proprietary test protocols/ standards pertaining to the performance, reliability, and durability of product design from an overall system level output, down to individual component selection and validation.

7) Research, interpret and drive deep understanding of industry test standards within the testing function, while ensuring that they are appropriately applied with respect to product design/development and advertising claims.

8) Develop and evaluate test plans during critical phases of the Product Development Process insuring thorough proof of design testing and product integrity of BISSELL products.

9) Lead the planning, development, & analysis of controlled experiments (DOE), and other systematic problem-solving tools relating to Data Analysis, for the purposes of distilling complex technical knowledge towards useful application in support of Global Product Development activities.

10) Participate in and ensure that FMEA meetings relative to product durability, performance, and reliability are performed during the Design Phase of the Product Development process.

11) Review and disposition test reports. Compare and interpret results of tests against standards and/or comparative data. Act to ensure that all test results and reporting are accurate and complete. Draw valid conclusions and resolve problems related to testing.

12) Oversee work performed by contracted outside engineering and laboratory services ensuring all deliverables have been met as well as proper execution of test procedures and protocols.

13) Proactively evaluate and recommend changes to Engineering technical capabilities in response to the organization's shifting needs.

14) Establish continuous improvement processes following lean principles that drive overall increases in laboratory efficiency and output.
