Position Summary As a member of Marriott Fire Protection & Life Safety, this position is responsible for overseeing a team of Fire Inspection Specialists responsible for routine inspections and tests of fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems, emergency power, means of egress, storage and housekeeping and system maintenance procedures.  The team also conducts training for hotel engineers in the operation and maintenance of such systems. The Manager of Inspections reports to the Director – Americas, Inspections, PIPs & Renovations, and is responsible for communicating inspections related items to the Director.
 

The Manager of Inspections is responsible for ensuring compliance of Marriott owned, managed and franchised properties with regard to fire protection and life safety standards.    A key component for this position would be networking, attracting talent and building the Americas Central region inspections group with associates based in the region.

Expected Contributions and Responsibilities
  • Supervisory responsibilities:
  • Responsible for recruiting, coaching, retention, training and developing Central region staff to perform their defined duties. 
  • Provide performance feedback and evaluation, and career development to direct reports.
  • Responsible for management and administrative duties of Americas Central region inspectors including monitoring, tracking, and approving time sheets and expense reports in a timely fashion.  Also provides direction to the team to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Follow through with inquiries and requests in a timely manner.
  • Taking lead with hiring new Central inspectors and coordinating with various HQ staff to ensure seamless on-boarding process.
  • Assist in the building of team core values of integrity, accountability, respect, teamwork and value.
 
  • Inspection Program Management:
  • Responsible for delivery of high quality inspection services to properties within inspection program. 
  • Make decisions for complex fire protection and life safety issues and when necessary, refers to other members within Marriott Fire Protection & Life Safety.
  • Actively listen and ask questions of customers to assess the level of satisfaction with the service being provided and to prevent problems from occurring.  Regularly monitor customer satisfaction and take personal responsibility to ensure it is met.  Follow through with customer inquiries, requests, and complaints in a timely fashion.
  • Remain current with emerging technologies, national codes and best testing methods for automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, life safety, and smoke control.
  • Work closely with other Manager of Inspections in the Americas.  Collaborate on a regular basis to ensure cooperation and consistency of the overall inspection program.
  • Contribute in managers’ & quarterly inspector meetings, scheduling upcoming inspections, planning efforts, and resolve field inspection issues identified by inspectors for Central region properties.
  • Assist with the development of the monthly calendar scheduling process.
  • Establish routine communication with Americas Central region above property operations staff on critical FLS identified items for properties in assigned regions, as well as feedback on inspections program results, recurrence/trends, positive accomplishments, etc.
  • Minimizing cost expenditures to program and working to stay within established budgets.
 
  • Communicate orally and in writing with customers and associates.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the Director – Americas Inspections, PIPs, Renovations.
  • Work efficiently and effectively with very little supervision.
  • Responsible for own work and contributing to team, department and business results.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  Skill Requirements
  • Working knowledge of the operation and testing and maintenance of automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, means of egress requirements, along with other key inspection issues.
  • Strong problem solving capabilities; ability to search beyond traditional boundaries.
  • Understanding the business, budget elements and operations of inspections program.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills which must include ability to explain fire protection concepts at all levels, and enforce standards while strengthening relationships, occasionally under pressure, and train associates in the operations of life safety systems and procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
  • Excellent networking abilities and attracting talent.
  • High degree of initiative, personal responsibility and integrity.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to present training to groups of associates and inspection team.
  • Ability to educate and influence the Authority Having Jurisdiction regarding Marriott practices.
  • Ability to share knowledge openly and assist others as necessary.
  • Ability to travel (approximately 50%).
  • Self-motivated and ability to work at MIHQ (preferred) or at Home Office (approximately 50%).
 
 
 
 

Specific Candidate Profile

  • NICET I & II Inspections certification preferred.
  • 8 years of progressive experience in the fire department with a working knowledge of fire department operations.
  • 5 years of progressive experience as a Marriott Fire Inspection Specialist or equivalent
