Banquet Manager

The ideal candidate is required to have a proven background in Banquets with demonstrated ability proven in Guest Service, Financial Returns and Employee Engagement. He/she must have the ability to motivate and lead a vibrant and diverse team with a keen eye for detail. Motivating and leading the colleagues in providing the best Banquet experience in Pittsburgh, while cultivating relationships with clients and exceeding their expectations is the expectation.

Hotel Overview: Fairmont Pittsburgh, a 4 diamond LEED certified luxury hotel, is located at the heart of Pittsburgh's business, cultural and retail hub. Fairmont Pittsburgh offers superb and distinctive guest services and accommodations in a luxury setting.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, Operations, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

* Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service

* Active floor presence with hands on management of functions and colleagues

* Strong relationship with Conference Service Managers to execute on client needs, expectations, and timelines

* Focuses on guest satisfaction scores (Voice of the Guest / Meeting Planner) in all duties and interactions

* Responds to and handles all guest complaints

* Manages functions within labor and service and CBA guidelines

* Responsible for banquet financials in conjunction with the Director of Catering/Conference Services including month-end review and commentary

* Responsible for labor management; weekly schedule; and weekly payroll

* Responsible for managing departmental expenses and actively involved in monthly forecast review and annual budget

* Works with Director of Purchasing for all departmental purchases and must ensure purchases are in line with monthly forecast

* Is immediately accessible to all clients on site with interaction at minimum every hour during an event

* Ensures innovative banquet presentations and setups in line with our brand F&B 2020 guidelines

* Oversee the setup of function rooms to ensure setup matches diagram and all specific details outlined in the BEO (AV, chairs, linens, silver, glassware, etc.) are in place according to event specifications

* Strong relationship with Culinary Team; especially Banquet Exec Sous Chef for menu needs related to dietary restriction; client changes/pop-up's

* Executes Banquet Event Order's (BEO's) line by line and ensures all expectations are exceeded

* Works with Chief Steward to conduct monthly inventory of all equipment and maintain proper par levels

* Oversee the breakdown of the function room and ensure proper storage of equipment

* Conduct regular colleague shift briefings and facilitates monthly formal communication meetings

* Responsible for employee engagement score and follow-up action plans to focus on improvement year over year

* Responsible for all department recruitment

* Advise all colleagues of established standard operating procedures set out by the department, hotel and brand

* Establishes high standards of quality service and maintains them through effective training and continuous development

* Focus on development and growth of departmental leaders within Banquets

* Ensure performance management principles are followed at all times

* Routinely inspects meeting space and communicates work orders for the Engineering Department to maintain rooms in excellent condition

* Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation and alcohol awareness standards

* Property Manager and Opera knowledge an asset

* RAMP and ServSafe Certified an asset

* Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays

* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

* Previous experience is an asset

* Minimum 2 years progressive Food and Beverage Management experience, preferably in Banquets in a luxury setting

* College Degree an asset

* Experience in a union environment an asset

* Computer knowledge, particularly POS (MICROS) and Microsoft Office an asset

* Hands on management style with ability to prioritize and lead through example

* Strong organizational skills

* Excellent interpersonal skills, with great communication ability

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

* Constant standing and walking throughout shift

* Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs

* Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting

* Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
