Respiratory Assistant-Loan Forgiveness or Tuition Assistance Available!

UnityPoint Health-Methodist Campus

Shift: PRN As Needed-variable 1st or 2nd shifts. 16 hrs per month minimum required. One holiday per year required.

Summary:

As a health care professional, the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, managing the processes involved in performing respiratory therapy, ECG, oxygen administration and airway management.

Loan Forgivness or Tuition Assistance available:

Tuition Reimbursement of $3000/year (up to $6000 total).

1.Employee must be employed as a 0.1 FTE (8 hours per week

2.Employee must stay 2 years after they complete their coursework

3.No tenure requirement for the tuition reimbursement

4.Tuition will be repaid as long as the Student gets a C or better in the class.

5.Proof of grades is required for the repayment to be sent.

6.Student will sign the special tuition reimbursement agreement at the time of offer for CRT/RRT position.

7.Will also be required to apply for tuition reimbursement for each semester of class until they graduate.

Loan Forgiveness of $6000.

1.Students will begin receiving $115.39 on each paycheck after transfer into the CRT or RRT job title.

2.Must stay employed in the CRT/RRT position for 2 years in order to receive the entire $6000 in loan forgiveness.

3.Student will sign a promissory note at the time of offer for CRT/RRT position that will lock in the Loan Forgiveness for after graduation.

Responsibilities

PERFORMS PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE ALL FORMS OF RESPIRATORY THERAPY, NON-INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY, AND OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES UTILIZING APPLICABLE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

* Accurately interpret and execute physician orders

* Demonstrates the ability to individualize therapy to meet the patient's need

* Demonstrates the ability to anticipate the patient needs

* Demonstrates the ability to calculate medication dosages

* Performs patient education

* Performs all duties in an efficient and timely manner

* Notify leader of respiratory care, nursing supervisor, or unit leader of any inappropriate patient care issues

* Document all patient care errors

* Inform nurses or other care givers when appropriate on patient care issues

* Uses protective equipment appropriately

* Practices good body mechanics, getting assistance as needed to protect patient and own safety

* Alert and responsive to all alarms/call lights

* Always washes hands between patients and procedures

* Perform testing in a manner that ensures accurate results.

* Performs patient bedside lab testing (ABGs) and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider's orders and hospital lab procedures/policies.

* Maintains a clean work area, checks and stocks supplies in their specific area.

* Performs oxygen rounds and oxygen tank rounds as assigned.

* Responds to all pages and requests in a timely manner

* Perform home care instructions and arrange for home oxygen and/or nebulizer

* Responds to emergency situations and codes immediately

* Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency and/or stressful situations

* Ensures patient safety in the hospital environment by following policy/procedures and adhering to National Patient Safety Goals

PRIORITIZES PATIENT CARE BASED ON ACUITY AND USES TIME, SUPPLIES, & OTHER RESOURCES PRODUCTIVELY

* Answers pages and new orders in a timely manner

* Responds promptly to urgent needs

* Utilizes free time constructively

* Uses slow time to improve unit and department appearance

* Uses slow time to stock areas and clean equipment

* Assists other healthcare workers

* Uses free time to participate in department projects

* Completes work within assigned shift

* Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize work

* Remains flexible to changing work load

* Willing responds to delegation by charge personnel

* Adheres to treatment schedule

* Completes activities while conserving resources

MAINTAINS ACCURATE DOCUMENTATION AND ACCURATE COMPUTER ENTRY

* Complete and concise documentation of all therapy and oxygen

* Complete and concise documentation on all internal forms

* Complete and accurate charge entry daily

* Complete and accurate information on all ECGs

* Accurate documentation on all diagnostic tests

ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS/HER ONGOING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

* Learns the functions of new equipment as appropriate

* Learns new procedures as appropriate

* Knowledgeable of MMCI & departmental policies and procedures

* Completes all mandatory education within the stated timeframe

* Attends educational offerings to validate skills

* Maintain current knowledge of appropriate equipment

* Maintain current CPR card

Qualifications

Education:

* High School Diploma required

Credentials:

* Incumbent must be enrolled in a respiratory program. Upon graduation from the program, the Respiratory Assistant will be required to pass their CRT and obtain their license within 6 months.

CPR Experience:

* 1-3 years of experience in/with skills in respiratory therapy, ventilator management, electrocardiogram, oxygen administration and airway management. A basic knowledge of Pulmonary and Cardiovascular anatomy and physiology is preferred.
