Job Summary

The Stamps School of Art & Design Pre-College Program is looking for educators to join our staff this spring as Instructors.

Instructors play a critical role in the success of the Stamps Pre-College Program. Instructors help develop a studio intensive curriculum and instruct high school students in college-level art and design coursework. Instructors introduce participants to the rigor of studio art/design and engage with all students through demonstrations, group critique and personal guidance.

Instructors are responsible for the health and safety of all participants in the classroom and work in concert with the Pre-College Program Coordinator to cultivate a supportive and creative learning environment. Instructors administer University of Michigan policy, the rules and protocols of the Stamps Pre-College Program and observe the Pre-College Program schedule.

We are looking for an Instructor for each of our two 2018 Spring Studios; Drawing for Artists and Designers and Design Fundamentals.

Drawing for Artists and Designers is an introductory drawing studio course. Students will learn drawing concepts fundamental to contemporary art and design practice. Participants will gain knowledge and experience in a variety of approaches, ranging from observational to experimental drawing. Each class session is structured as studio time, giving students ample opportunity to build their drawing skills and apply new concepts. Lectures, demonstrations, handouts, and slides will enhance covered material.

Design Fundamentals is an introductory graphic design course. Students will gain familiarity and hands-on experience with a variety of two-dimensional practices and media. The majority of each class session is structured as studio time, giving students significant time to build their 2D design skills and to apply new concepts. Analog, digital, and lens-based media will be employed. Lectures, demonstrations, handouts, and slides will enhance covered material.

Successful candidates will have experience teaching high school and/or college students in a comparable artistic discipline. Expertise in the course material is essential to the success of our program. Candidates should indicate their ability to instruct a specific class in a cover letter.
