Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepares trays with instruments and supplies and passes to dentist, dental resident or dental student as required. Assists with sealants, fillings, extractions, root canals, and dental prophylaxis. Exposes dental radiographs. Provides and demonstrates oral hygiene instructions. Communicates home care and treatment needs to patients and parents of minors. Cleans and disinfect operatories. Sterilizes dental instruments. Documents encounters in client records and charts dental restorations and treatment needs. Assist the dentist in patient care as needed. Assist is maintaining hygiene recall appointment system according to DOH-Pasco policy and procedure.

Upholds quality infection control standards through the sterilization or disinfecting of all operatory and laboratory equipment, instruments and supplies. Responsible for ensuring that all the patient care is provided in an aseptic environment. Handles all bio-hazardous waste and sharp objects according to Federal and state OSHA(Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines.

Maintains accurate charts and records by documenting treatment rendered, referrals, and/or prescriptions given to a patient, radiographs, phone conversations with patient and billing or receipt copies made.

Organizes and maintains electronic and paper records and files for the dental program. Manages use of EagleSoft electronic system, HMS in accordance with DOH procedures. Records all activity and time in EARs and EagleSoft.

Updates the dental program procedure manual, the Dental Material Safety Sheet log, the Dental hazardous materials Procedure Handbook and Dental Program Equipment Manuals as required by Federal, State, and DOH-Pasco regulations

Attends training and seminars as they become available to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to duties and responsibilities.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES:

Certified Dental Radiographer

Certificate in Expanded Duties for Dental Assisting

Ability to prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment. Ability to fabricate dental plaster models. Ability to read. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
