Role: Laboratory Technician

Duration: 6 month contract to hire (will go permanent)

Opening: First Shift Hours Monday-Friday

General Purpose of the Job:

Take direction from Laboratory Supervisor and/or QA Manager and work with Production Supervisors to maintain overall product quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs microbiological analysis of raw materials and finished products
  • Responsible for Hold/Release/Rejection of finished goods.
  • Performs chemical analysis of raw materials and finished products.
  • Verifies compliance and alerts management of any deviations.
  • Performs weight checks, temperature checks, ingredient usage and distribution, finished product appearance, code date verification and pH testing.
  • Responsible for daily finished product evaluations
  • Performs sensory evaluations of all products
  • Performs environmental testing
  • Ability to grow and assume increased responsibilities as Company requirements dictate
  • Flexibility to vary work schedule dependent upon production and staffing needs
  • Follow all Company and governmental policies and regulations (e.g. SOP, GMP, LOTO, Safety, etc.)
  • Follow job specific SOP's
  • Keep all areas of responsibility clean and organized
  • Keep neat and accurate records and paperwork per Company and government policy
  • Perform necessary preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Report all equipment malfunctions and abnormalities to Plant Shift Supervisors, Management and/or Maintenance
  • Suggest any new preventative maintenance tasks that could be added to improve efficiency, eliminate downtime and product failures.
  • Work with maintenance personnel to effect repairs as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science
  • 0-3 years prior experience in a Laboratory
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Good computer skills including literacy with Excel and Word.
  • Individual should have an understanding of food safety, food laboratory practices, GMP, HACCP, PMO, Pest Control and basic Sanitation practices
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
