About this job

The Climbing Program Coordinator (PC) at the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) is responsible for staff training, staff coordination, and the daily operation of all climbing activities – belayed, bouldering, and Deep Water Solo. Additionally, the PC will be responsible for ensuring the team maintains high safety standards, meets guest capacity goals, and provides excellent customer service. PC is a full-time, benefits-eligible position and reports to the Outdoor Program Manager.

• Effectively communicate with guests regarding activity concepts, safety, and company policies
• Perform basic inspections and maintenance on Land Sports equipment and structures
• Coordinate a staff of 30-50 Land Sports Guides and Site Leads through direct supervision, team meetings, and mentorship
• Provide instruction during staff development trainings, guest programs, and summer camps
• Contribute to both staff development and disciplinary action with input from management
• Maintain up-to-date skill sets and basic abilities in all Land Sports areas including Zip Lines, Ropes Courses, and Jumps, and provide support as necessary
• Route setting for roped climbs and boulder problems of specific grade and quality
• Assist in Deep Water Solo and USA Climbing Competitions
• Work a flexible and sometimes demanding schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays

Requirements

Job Requirements
* A desire to provide an excellent guest experience
* Must have a strong work ethic and positive attitude
* Ability to lead and effectively teach and mentor staff
* Ability to lead climb, belay, and operate a Petzl GriGri, mechanical ascenders, adjustable daisy chains, and ladders
* Familiarity with a socket wrench, electric ratchet, screwdriver, and drill
* Familiarity with Climbing Wall industry standards
* Current Lifeguard and First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications - courses are offered by the USNWC

Physical Requirements
* Should be able to consistently forerun boulder problems up to V7 and routes up to 5.12 minimum
* Ability to perform setting and hold stripping work while using ropes and ladders for long periods of time
* Ability to work outdoors for sustained periods of time under varying weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications
* A degree in Commercial Recreation, Outdoor Education, another related field, or equivalent professional work Experience
* Level 1 Route Setting Certification
