Quinnipiac University Student Health Services is accepting applications for a Medical Assistant. The role of the Medical Assistant will function in a supportive role to facilitate registered nurses and staff at Student Health Services, within the standard role of certified medical assistants. Student Health Services is open 24 hours/day during the academic year. It is a fast paced environment that will require multi-tasking.

The current schedule is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 5p-11p, during the academic year only, but will flex depending on the needs of the department.  

This is a part-time position and is not benefits eligible.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain phone coverage, greet visitors and students, take messages, relay information and answer questions within scope of knowledge and authority
  • Have knowledge of Quinnipiac procedures and Student Health Services operations
  • Assist and instruct students in accessing the electronic health record system; schedule appointments
  • Obtain and record vital signs and document in chart as directed by registered nurse
  • Utilize Quinnipiac’s electronic software platform system fully and effectively. Utilize electronic health records to enter, retrieve and maintain information; scan documents as required
  • Maintain, clean and sanitize reception area, waiting room, observation rooms, and exam rooms.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment in Student Health Services
  • Stock all rooms and supplies.  Monitor expiration dates and par levels of supplies
  • Assist registered nurse with patient and visitor observation for safety precautions
  • Maintain student confidentiality of all records.  Working knowledge of HIPPA and FERPA 
  • Assist with the coordination of off-campus transportation for students requiring rides to the pharmacy, therapy or appointments with specialists
  • Route phone calls, faxes and incoming electronic and paper mail for appropriate distribution and action
  • Broad knowledge in medical terminology, blood borne pathogens, and universal precautions
  • Retrieve and process counseling and health forms
  • Perform additional medical assistant duties as assigned by the Directors of Student Health Services
Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants
  • Certification as a medical assistant. High school diploma or GED. Broad knowledge in medical terminology (with certificate or equivalent experience), blood borne pathogens, and universal precautions. CPR certification.
  • 5+ years as a certified medical assistant with outpatient facility experience
  • Demonstrated ability working effectively with a diverse population of students and faculty

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand/walk for full 6 hour shift
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach, lift, carry, push and pull 25 lbs. regularly and on occasion may require the ability to lift up to 100lbs

Please note this position requires a successful completion of a physical demands exam.
