Emory Development and Alumni Relations is seeking an experienced Director of Development to become part of its Emory College of Arts and Sciences team. We seek an exceptional candidate with strong organizational and communications skills, a commitment to the mission and values of the College, experience with a broad range of development programs, and the ability to build productive relationships with a variety of constituents. Reports to the Senior Director of Development.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

* Manages a personal portfolio of 125-150 prospects and donors with specific goals and benchmarks intended to secure annual, major and estate gifts in the $100,000 and up range. Identifies, strategically cultivates, solicits and stewards donors with this philanthropic capacity.

* Provide editorial direction for proposals and donor-centered publications, both printed and electronic.

* Determine appropriate and strategic use of University and academic leadership in fundraising efforts. Ensure that proper briefings are developed.

* Provide leadership guidance to assist and engage faculty and volunteers in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major prospects.

* Focus on identifying and qualifying new prospects, introducing relevant academic leaders and faculty to prospective donors, and presenting proposals.

* Participates in frequent regional travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Established track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing significant philanthropic gifts ($50,000+) for higher education institutions.

* Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively about engaging donors nationally, and to develop plans of action and follow through.

* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

* Ability to create a climate of confidence and trust on the part of donors, development colleagues as well as faculty.

* Political, analytical and negotiation skills required to manage in a complex university environment. Ability to reconcile and resolve differences of opinion with diplomacy, maturity and sound judgment. Superior problem-solving ability.

* Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including but not limited to the ability to communicate persuasively and dynamically about Emory College and its programs. Ability to take ideas from vision to implementation.

* Ability to work with little supervision but collaboratively in a complex and energetic environment. Strong multi-tasking skills.

* Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with donors, volunteers, faculty and administrative staff.

* Willingness to travel regularly and work some nights and weekends.

* High energy, independent, self-starter. An entrepreneurial spirit. Willingness to seek and forge new donor relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and 5 years experience in higher education, development, fund raising or equivalent experience in a non-profit institution.

FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Plans, directs and coordinates funding activities for a specific department in support of students, programs and facilities. Seeks major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations through donor correspondence, event/reception planning and personal visits. Maintains an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation and stewardship calls to donors and new prospects. Coordinates public relations, donor relations, budget management and the generation of publications and proposals. Provides ongoing feedback to employees concerning their performance. May direct and monitor alumni relations work, including responding to alumni needs and requests. May supervise clerical, professional and volunteer staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.
