JOB SUMMARY

The Director, IT Workplace & Cloud Services Engineering will be responsible for all aspects of the conception, engineering, building, and testing of a world class workplace and cloud services for Marriott International associates. This key organizational leader will focus on recommending and developing technical solutions with a “Millennial,” and “Gen-Z,” mindset as the primary consideration. This individual must be familiar with the standards and executeable actions required for the conception, designing, building, and testing activities required to deliver reliable technology solutions and other capabilities associated with directory, e-mail, hosting, and virtual desktop infrastructure with a vision for simplicity, automation, self-empowerment, and user experience. Overall experience in developing technical solutions for the workplace leveraging cloud services is critical. This role will be responsible for hiring, developing, and building an inclusive, user centric, high performance team. They will also interface with vendors and other third parties to define enhancements, product changes, and delivery of solutions that work best for Marriott.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

 

Education and Experience

Required:
  • Undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline and/or equivalent experience/certification
  • 10+ years of developing technical solutions for end user and workplace services leveraging cloud and virtual technologies with a minimum of 3 years at a Senior Manager and above level at a large, global company
  • 5+ years developing virtualized and automated technology capabilities in support of desktop and mobile computing platforms.
  • 5+ years working with third party service suppliers and ITO organizations – should include financial, SLA and service definition functions.
  • 7+ years experience negotiating with and managing OEM relationships. 
  • 3+ years experience with Agile or Design Thinking.
  • 3+ years experience working with enterprise class cloud services and DaaS providers such as Office365, AWS Workspaces, VMware Horizon, and Azure. 
  • Experience working with remote and offshore development and support teams.
 
Preferred:
  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management or MBA
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale infrastructure initiatives/transformations.
  • A thorough understanding of the interdependence of systems and their impact to the business.
  • Understanding of the quality assurance, risk management, and security considerations and their impact on the overall technology environment.
  • End to end infrastructure lifecycle experience related to workplace and virtual computing environments. 
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  • Strong process management and problem resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience in business systems and process planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, decide and influence appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to understand and communicate the lifecycle of technologies and applications and to translate into business strategies for the client organizations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas in easy to understand business terms.
  • Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, effective controls and leading in a managed service environment.
 
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
 
Leadership
  • Accountable for providing day-to-day leadership and management of the Cloud and Workspace Engineering organization and managing the effective delivery of those services to the company.
  • Establish management level relationships and partner with all discipline teams to define systems engineering and cloud services.
  • Accountable for managing suppliers in ensuring the delivery of quality services and meet all contractual obligations.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement and structured processes and procedures that support not only a zero-fault culture, but one that focuses on the "how" as much as the what.
 
Conception
  • Participate in the develop of new strategies around the ‘consumerization’ of the workplace experience at Marriott International.  This includes such key concepts as ‘wireless everywhere’, virtualization,  cloud based software, and wearable technology. 
  • Responsible for developing technical solutions in the workplace technology space geared at maximizing the end user experience.  This includes a clear understanding of key business processes for provisioning, device management, security and compliance, self-enablement technology and technology upgrades.
  • Act as key market thought leader, leveraging third party and industry insights to evolve the way Marriott associates engage with their work, colleagues and customers. 
  • Lead the team responsible for virtualizing and moving workplace experiences to mobile infrastructure technology and cloud services.
  • Responsible for developing all key infrastructure capabilities and functions for end user access and controls for remote email, SPAM, remote desktop access, and device management.
 
Engineering
  • Select, qualify and transition all technologies related to workplace technologies into production (e.g. virtualization, domain, and collaboration services).
  • Develop technical solutions for end point device virtualization (VDI).
  • Design quality and always available domain services such as Active Directory, LDAP, and other associated e-Directories.
  • Design reliable services for electronic messaging and collaboration services inclusive of email, chat, desktop video conferencing, file share services and SharePoint services.
  • Build a team that will drive strategy around designing and managing healthy messaging, collaboration, and domain services.
  • Develop cloud based services in the form of IaaS, SaaS or PaaS to help consumerize the end point device experience.
  • Develop standards, qualifications and methods for the integration of the workplace architecture with new applications and internet browsers. 
  • Design the experience and capabilities of the wireless infrastructure in conjunction with network services and mobile device management functions
  • Design and implement all digital and automated processes for service and device provisioning, service enhancements and service requests.
 
Service Management
  • Represent the services across the organization, designates technical lead and backup, and coordinates communication among support staff and systems staff
  • Ensure team understands the services and provides input in service attributes such as performance, availability, security, etc.
  • Conduct competitive market assessment/benchmarking, analyzes financial and internal customer analysis
  • Manage vendor relations, oversees internal supplier management
  • Lead the team in developing the strategy and approach for application virtualization and the Marriott “App Store”.
  • Work with third party suppliers and integrators on automating workplace support services and other support areas.
