Janitor

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Working in fast-paced distribution facility, perform a variety of janitorial, custodial, and/or security tasks to maintain clean and safe buildings and grounds while meeting Ace performance standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

Drives through the entire facility collecting waste/trash, operating compactors and balers, cleans up spills, and performs all duties associated with battery charging and changing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Drives through the facility, dumps trash into containers, compacts/bales trash, and moves bales to storage. Clears cardboard jams in the overhead conveyor. Cleans up all spills. Landscaping, shovels snow, uses snow blower, sweeps walks. Assists battery charging and battery changing in all electrically powered trucks. Perform housekeeping duties, keep floors clean, and keep work areas neat and clean.

Shift hours: Varies. Typically 8, 9, or 10 hours

WORKING CONDITIONS/CONTEXT:

• Requires walking, bending or twisting, stooping, climbing, reaching, carrying, grasping.
• Requires the ability to drive, steer, and control material moving equipment.
• Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.
• Requires standing.
• Requires face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams.
• Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or cold (below 50 F degrees) temperatures.
• Requires repeating the same physical activities or mental activities over and over.
• Requires being exact or highly accurate.
• Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions.
• Moderate noise, conditions could include odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

WORK ACTIVITIES:

• Performs a safety and mechanical check of the equipment.
• Drives a tugger with carts carrying trash containers throughout the facility picking up trash.
• Drives to the compactor and the baler, dumps the trash, compacts the trash and bales the plastic.
• Rolls bales out of the machine and moves them using a forklift.
• Cleans up all spills including Hazardous Material spills.
• Uses the battery changer machine to change batteries in all battery powered industrial trucks.
• Connects/disconnects batteries to the charging equipment and will add water to batteries as needed.
• Keeps the battery charging area neat and clean.
• Cleans rooms or work areas.
• Maintain a safe work environment.
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability and willingness to work non-traditional shifts and hours.
