The Job

Ace's Corporate Communications department is hiring! This newly created Media Relations Specialist position will play an integral role in advancing Ace's corporate media relations efforts. Reporting to the Media Relations Manager, this position supports all areas of corporate media relations - from writing press releases and pitching reporters, to crafting social media posts and managing public relations analytics.

What you'll do
  • Daily media monitoring for Ace and competitors using PR software tools
  • Development of press materials, such as press releases, email pitches, media advisories, etcÂ…
  • Research reporters, news outlets and create media lists
  • Pitch local reporters to support local Ace Hardware stores
  • Act as a spokesperson for the company when responding to local media inquiries
  • Provide media training to Ace store owners, upon request
  • Day-to-day management of PR media metrics and analysis
  • Assist in management of company newsroom; source and write feature stories for newsroom
  • Write social media content calendars, manage deployment of content to LinkedIn and Glassdoor
  • Monitor corporate social media platforms including LinkedIn and Glassdoor
  • Manage a variety of company award programs
  • Manage proactive editorial opportunities
  • Assist with internal communication requests, as needed
What we need from you
  • Bachelor's degree with focus in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in public relations, representing a Consumer Brand
  • Agency and/or Corporate experience is highly preferred
  • Must be an effective and confident communicator, with expertise in AP Style writing
  • Proven ability to pitch local media, secure coverage and maintain reporter relationships
  • A sense of humor!
  • Fundamental understanding of crisis communications principles and discretion related to issues management
  • Strong understanding of media landscape
  • Experience drafting press releases and other PR materials
  • Excellent understanding of social media space, how to communicate within a variety of social media platforms, and how to write for social media audiences
  • Solid understanding of public relations metrics with the ability to gather, track and analyze data
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for managing business partner relationships
