Company and Position Overview

Home Instead Senior Care® is the world's trusted source of non-medical companionship and home care services for seniors and others in need of our services. Our services include companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, laundry, errands, escorting to appointments and personal care. Our Care Attendants must meet Home Instead's education, experience, licensure and training requirements for each specific client assignment. Because Home Instead provides customized care for its clients regarding the services provided, certain Care Attendant positions will include essential job functions and skills that are unique to that client. This position requires both special qualifications and an obligation to perform essential functions related to this client which are more fully detailed below.

Primary Job Requirements, Knowledge and Ability

• Provide non-medical services and engage in independent decision making for the client to promote independence and quality of life in the following areas:
  • Companionship care
  • Light housekeeping (vacuuming, dusting, laundry, etc.)
  • Meal preparation and planning errands, shopping and escorting to appointments
  • Personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, incontinence care)

• • Medication Support Services
• The ability to understand, participate in the formation or modification of, and follow the client's care plan as it relates to the Care Attendant position.
• Possess at least a high school education (or equivalent).
• The ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
• The ability to maintain detailed written records of all activities related to client care.
• The ability to learn and use cell phone and other software technology as required by Home Instead to record and report hours worked as well as to document activities and client conditions to assist medical providers.
• Minimum of two years' experience as a Caregiver or similar senior care experience and the ability to successfully complete and pass ongoing Home Instead required care training and testing.
• Possess a valid driver's license and valid car insurance at all times to act as the primary driver to transport the client in a motor vehicle. Proof of both documents must be on file with Home Instead Senior Care.
• The ability to be punctual for and regularly attend all scheduled shifts.
• The ability to travel with and provide care to client for extended periods of time within or outside the United States.
• The ability to provide friendly, compassionate, and organized care focused on the client's well-being in order to promote client independence and quality of life.

• The ability to work weekends, nights and holidays to provide service to the client through 12 to 40 hour shifts (and potentially longer when traveling) based upon the client's needs. Job requires a minimum of 24 hours in a work week and the ability to work more than 40 hours in a given work week when traveling with the client or based on Home Instead scheduling needs.

• Possess organizational skills related to job duties.
• Successfully pass a criminal background check and all employment related drug screening tests.
• Present three work related and three personal references who/which vouch for your character of integrity and represented skill.
• Follow Home Instead policies and procedures in order to provide exceptional care for the client.
• Possess and maintain a valid US passport that allows out-of-country travel to provide caregiving services to the client.

Essential Job Functions

• The personality to provide friendly, compassionate, competent, resilient, resourceful and creative care to the client.
• The ability to safely transport the client in a motor vehicle as the primary driver.
• The ability to travel by train, boat or private-commercial airplane while providing care for client.
• The ability to stand, walk, drive, bend, twist, kneel, and reach over your head with weights up to 10 lbs.
• Current CPR certification which must be kept current while working in this position.
• The ability to stand, walk or drive for long periods of time while on outings with the client. Standing may require several hours while on outings. Walking may include pedestrian travel through cities or on daily outings for up to five or more miles in a day.
• The ability to safely push, pull, carry and lift objects up to 25 pounds repetitively during the course of a shift.

Schedule and Compensation

• Generally, the position schedule is less than 40 hours per week scheduled over days, evenings, and weekends.
• Rate of compensation is approximately  $24.00/hr (may vary upon experience). 
• Adhere to all TrueLink debit card rules at all times (attached to this Job Description).
• All Care Attendants may choose to work with other Home Instead Senior Care clients at the current offered compensation rate when not scheduled to work with their primary client.
• All Care Attendants are provided with 100% paid health benefits that includes medical, dental and vision coverage.
• All Care Attendants also receive 160 hours of PTO annually.
