OVERVIEW:

The Senior Solutions Data Architect role provides data management and technology leadership on specific initiatives and at the enterprise level. At the project/initiative level this person is responsible for creating solution designs and architecture documentation that drive high-quality, feasible implementations that cost effectively meet business needs. They are also responsible for ensuring the designs of others are aligned to data quality standards and architectural guidelines. At the enterprise level this person will be responsible for helping develop standards for data management. This includes standards for things like meta-data, modeling, cleansing and transformation. It also includes tool selection and governance processes.

PRINCIPAL RESPONISIBILITIES:

  • Create solution designs and architecture documentation for complex information systems
  • Consult on projects and review the data architecture designs of others
  • Evaluate software tools, languages, and best practices
  • Create and enforce data standards and governance
  • Serves as coach and mentor to technical team members
  • Work with enterprise architecture on data management standards, current state and future state architecture
  • Work with project and application teams to ensure they understand and comply with data quality standards, architectural guidelines, and designs
  • Work with functional users to confirm the applicability of design alternatives, identify and recommend cost effective options, and address user concerns
  • Complete tasks on time and in budget

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years in information technology
  • 5+ years in architecting large enterprise class solutions
  • 5+ years as a Technical Lead responsible for application database design and architecture
  • Proficient in data integration design and patterns, logical and physical data architecture and data modeling for enterprise applications, ODSs (Operational Data Stores), data marts, data warehouses and business intelligence systems
  • Proficient in design, development and implementation of OLTP and OLAP based systems
  • Proficient in enterprise data modeling standards and tools such as Erwin
  • Proficient in full lifecycle development on multiple platforms / solution types
  • Experience in creating and implementing data architecture standards for master data management, data quality, data dictionary, meta data and data security
  • Experience in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience in database programming using multiple SQL dialects
  • Experience in SQL or query optimization, indexing and performance tuning, and design for performance
  • Experience working with database deployment architecture that includes clustering, failover, high availability and replication
  • Experience working with ETL tools such as Informatica
  • Experience working with MDM (Master Data Management) tools
  • Experience with designing, programming, and integration of various back office systems
  • Experience in creating architectural standards and documentation templates and in tool selection
  • Experience with large data volumes and large databases

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), including facilitation and team leadership skills
  • Must be comfortable working in ambiguous and/or stressful situations
  • Must be self-motivated and know when to seek guidance
  • Flexibility, ability to change priorities quickly, and capacity to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies
  • Ability to work independently and in a team

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • BS or BA degree in a related field OR significant relevant work experience
  • Relevant vendor/professional certifications a plus 

INTERACTION:

This role will work closely with key departmental management and project stakeholders across the organization.  Therefore, the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels of management and staff within the organization is a key priority in this role. This role also requires a high degree of interaction with offsite vendor architects and developers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This role will sometimes lead project teams and carries supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Corporate and the IT organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities may include: interviewing, training employees, planning, assigning and reviewing work of technical team members, provide input on the quality and performance of team members to management.
