The HITS Datacenter Services Team installs, supports, and decommissions datacenter servers and assets in Michigan Medicine enterprise datacenters. This includes functioning as overall technical coordinators for physical resources throughout the datacenters. Beyond the technology, we are accountable for asset inventory, life-cycle management, assuring security, stability, reliability, and delivery of services to meet Michigan Medicine's mission.

To support the datacenters, this team is seeking an Intermediate Level Datacenter Engineer. This position, will help install and support datacenter physical assets such as servers, storage systems, backup systems, etc. This person will also respond to environmental (power, cooling, building mgmt.) alarms and coordinate their repair.

This engineer will work closely with various infrastructure teams (networking, servers, storage, etc.) to install, support, and decommission servers and other assets. This team also creates and maintains documentation to forecast, plan, and be able to respond to outages. Further, the team helps oversee the overall security of the facility by working closely with Hospital Security and with repair vendors delivering components. Lastly, the team helps organize and oversee delivery of assets to be installed and later decommissioned.

This is a full-time exempt level position, reporting to the Manager of Networking and Communication Architecture Services.

Responsibilities*

Data Center Engineering:

* Coordinate data center cable provisioning.

* Coordinate data center server move, add, change and decommission (MACD) activities.

* Coordinate hardware and spare parts inventory.

* Coordinate the delivery of data center engineering services to HITS Infrastructure

* Develop and maintain data center infrastructure documentation.

* Investigate, isolate and resolve problems with data center infrastructure and management systems.

* Monitor compliance and perform work in accordance with policy and procedures governing data center processes.

* Provide first level support for equipment hosted in HITS managed data centers.

* Support capacity planning and forecast reporting of equipment hosted in MCIT managed data centers.

Project Planning, Review & Implementation:

* Coordinate and synchronize the timely completion of data center projects.

* Coordinate data center projects including but not limited to access floor, cable tray, cabinets, monitoring systems, network and SAN build-out,

* security systems, server deployment and structured cabling.

* Prepare and deliver data center project presentations.

* Prepare data center infrastructure project cost estimates and work orders.

* Prepare technical specifications for RFI, RFP and RFQ bid documents.

Enterprise Monitoring & Incident Management:

* Participate in post incident documentation and root cause analysis.

* Participate in the development of standard operating procedures for monitoring and major incident management.

* Partner with technical support teams, facilitate communication and track major incident status until resolved.

General Administrative:

* Attend routine meetings with department manager.

* Participate in weekly staff meetings.

* Provide weekly status reports.

Required Qualifications*

Required for the Intermediate Position:

* Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent combination of training and experience.

* 2-4 year's experience installing, maintaining servers, PC's, devices or other Ethernet cabling.

* Copper or fiber communications cabling experience

* Knowledge of data LAN networking and TCP/IP

* Knowledge of communications equipment enclosures

* High Level knowledge of power distribution systems (PDU's)

* Experience with PC/server technology and operating systems

* Asset and physical inventory management.

* Capacity planning, documentation, operations and projects.

* IT best practices, policies, procedures and standards.

* Enterprise monitoring and incident management supporting continuous (24 x 7) IT operations.

* Managing documentation drawings utilizing Visio similar drawing tools.

* Have a positive attitude and be energetic to accept and pursue challenges.

* Have excellent analytical and problem resolution skills.

* Have excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills.

Required for the Associate Position:

* Associate's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent combination of training and experience.

* 1-2 year's experience installing, maintaining servers, PC's, devices or other Ethernet cabling.

* Copper or fiber communications cabling experience
