The District Manager oversees the overall operation of retail stores within an assigned territory or district. The district manager ensures that the various retail stores within the territory or district are running smoothly and meet their store-specific sales goals. The District Manager is involved in the success of all operations and activities within the territory or district.

 

Key Responsibilities of a DISTRICT MANAGER:

 

Effective district managers are well-trained merchants with a thorough understanding of retail aesthetics and customers.

 

District managers hire, train and develop their management teams. Other responsibilities include ensuring district-wide customer satisfaction and product quality while managing the territory's financial performance, and managing safety and security within the district. 

 

Since a district manager is responsible for a large geographical area, the job usually involves a fair amount of travel (usually several times a week at least), and requires the lifting of up to 50 pounds, with long periods of time on one’s feet. 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Responsible for the overall operations and profitability of gas station/convenience store cluster.  Responsible for merchandising, inventory control, strict financial management and controlling loss prevention, employment and personnel issues, environmental health and safety compliance

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work closely with the Department of Human Resources to recruit, train, develop and coach Leads, Assistant Managers and Managers.

• Complete Professional Performance Reviews on all Managers and ensure that sites are doing reviews on all employees

• Ensure that sites meet labor hours and have minimal overtime

• Enforce all corporate, local, state and federal policies and procedures

• Achieve Margin Target, Store Sales Growth and Fuel Volume Growth goals as set forth by Corporate

• Develop plans to reach margin target, sales target and fuel target goals

• Use provided tools (such as SSCS, Key Value Driver scorecard) to assess and improve each site’s performance

• Perform regular audits on each site (Bank Deposits, Tobacco, Lottery, Alcohol, Phone Cards, etc.)

• Utilize SSCS and weekly reports as tools to improve sales and margins

• Ensure environmental paperwork is completed and properly maintained at each site

• Develop and build strategic, constructive relationships with vendors, other districts and departments

• Ensure that site managers are reviewing surveillance video, performing walk the site inspections and doing daily counts

• Fulfill other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to motivate direct reports and other site employees

• Valid driver’s license

• Clean driving record and be insurable through our Liability Insurance Carrier

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Effective communication with employees, customers, co-workers and vendors

• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated

• Must have a minimum 5 years District/Area/Territory Manager Experience; preferably in the retail industry

• Must be comfortable and familiar working with various computer programs, email and back-office systems

• Decision making and problem-solving skills that help get to “root” cause of issues and concerns

• High school diploma or equivalent; Undergraduate degree preferred

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to stand and walk for duration of shift

• Frequent use of hands, reaching and bending

• Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Must be comfortable working in a convenience store environment

• Daily exposure to gasoline and oil products

• Must maintain professional appearance

• Must maintain professional and friendly demeanor towards customers and employees

• Ability to travel by car to sites located within assigned district; occasional travel to other districts

• Fast-paced environment
