Essential Functions:

  • The Information Services Manager position will lead ongoing development and support efforts for the Enterprise Data Lake Platform & Services team within the Enterprise Data Management and Architecture area.
  • This individual will be responsible for managing a high performing team of critical individuals leading the enablement of one of our core strategic platforms of our data strategy and target architecture. This will entail the management of our enterprise data lake in Hadoop and the corresponding services enabling data management as well as advanced analytics and data science capabilities. This includes working closely with our Data Analytics practice leaders as well as strategic partners to enable this next generation platform for data and analytics.
  • Specific responsibilities of the team include:
    • Implementing analytics environments leveraging Big Data technologies, including integration with existing data and analytics platforms and tools.
    • Designing and implementing data pipelines on Big Data platform to enable rapid prototyping and accelerating the path to production.
    • Developing and configuring Big Data technologies for ingesting, transforming, storing and serving data at scale.
    • Re-architecting and rationalizing traditional data environments using Big Data technologies.
    • Creating data management solutions covering data security, metadata management, multi-tenancy and mixed workload management on Big Data platforms.
  • This person will work closely with the Sponsors, partner teams, and other information services teams to deploy strategic & practical solutions through existing and/or new systems technology, and will be responsible for the development, testing and ongoing support of multiple applications and business processes.
  • Oversees and manages the analysis, design, and installation of information systems and computing technology infrastructure to contribute to the efficient and effective achievement of business objectives.
  • Provides oversight for vendor solutions including performance monitoring and Vendor relationship management. Actively builds strategic partnerships with Vendors to deliver business capabilities where applicable.
  • Integration coordination and management will be critical as this individual will be leading the contracting, development and support activities associated with SaaS and on-premise solution offerings.
  • Communicates regularly with Business Partners, IT system leadership, Steering Committees and other stakeholders to ensure functionality meets or exceeds needs and to develop ongoing strategy roadmaps and project plans.
  • Previous experience in creating strategy and implementing technology and/or processes associated with self-service analytical tool enablement, data analytics, data management, business intelligence, and related fields is considered important.
  • Plans, staffs, directs, and controls team activities. This includes all management functions and decisions such as budgeting for and controlling expenses, interviewing and selecting personnel, appraising performance, administering salaries, developing and coaching subordinates, long-range and short-term planning, and ensuring compliance with Corporate Affirmative Action guidelines.
  • Articulates a strategic vision, which is clear and based on customer and I/S requirements and technology/architecture direction. Communicates direction in an appropriate manner with clarity to a wide variety of individuals. Develops and implements the changes needed to achieve the vision.
  • Achieves results through appropriate use of personnel, technology, and processes. Provides proactive leadership to projects, assessing the overall viability or long-term impact to projects, when major changes occur.
  • Functions performed are affected by advances in information systems technology and by changes in corporate information systems requirements caused by economic fluctuations, insurance industry trends,
  • government regulations and other factors. -The scope of this position holder's responsibilities range in size from satisfying diverse needs of a single customer to developing a large, complex multiple-function system within a highly critical environment.

  • Consults and participates in the development and/or selection of technical solutions as required. Understands concepts associated with the I/S architecture and information services industry. Understands the impact of technologies on Company problems and processes.
  • Manages the orderly introduction and change of technology to the company. Proactively seeks new opportunities to creatively apply technology and knowledge within team, area, and division.
  • Actively supports and understands I/S Core Processes. Guides the operation of the processes. May actively participate in the construction, enhancement, and deployment of core processes. Searches for and recommends suggestions for process improvements within team, area and division.
  • Understand customer business processes. Participates with customer management, as requested, to define, review, or modify business processes. Understands how specified technologies can enable business processes.
  • Pursues operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software or Electronic Engineering, Business Administration or other related discipline.
  • Strong and demonstrable people management experience managing cross functional teams.
  • Ideal candidate will have knowledge of and/or leading high performing teams supporting the following:
    • Big Data design, development experience using Apache Spark, Hive, Sqoop and Hadoop ecosystem is key
    • Data pipeline design with Big Data context.
    • Design and Implementation of large scale data loading, processing, analysis and exploration using native big data tools and ETL tools like Informatica
    • Experience in Linux shell scripting and administration.
    • Architecture patterns, policies and procedures for operational management of Big Data platforms.
    • Security architecture, security assessments, Identity and Access Management for Big Data platforms.
    • Executing proof of concepts to assess the value of Big Data use cases.
    • Excellent analytical thinking and problem solving.
    • Strong and demonstrable experience in a large-scale distributed database environment
    • Knowledgeable on Open Source techniques and tooling for big data architectures and analytics.
    • Experience in ELT design, development, test and integration is a plus.
    • Exposure to any RDBMS databases is a plus.
    • Experience in Hadoop distributions preferably Hortonworks
    • Big Data ecosystem components such as Hadoop (Spark, HDFS, YARN, Hive, Sqoop, Oozie, Ambari…)
    • Enterprise scale distributed NoSQL solutions
    • Big Data visualization and analytics (R, Mahout, Python, Tableau etc.)
