The Benefits Administrator is responsible for overseeing a variety of human resource functions including but not limited to benefits enrollment, management of leaves of absence, employee and vendor communications, and other related functions.

Works independently with direction from the Human Resources Process Manager.

Job Title: Benefits Administrator 
Reports to: HR Process Manager
Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: 2-3 years of benefit administration experience. 4- 6 years preferred in a support function within the restaurant industry.  MS Excel and general business software.
Requirements:  Working knowledge of human resources benefits and ACA regulations and concepts.  Ability to maintain and safeguard confidential and sensitive information. Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills.  Must demonstrates initiative and self-structure

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees ongoing enrollment into medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and other various benefit coverages, including new hires, promotions and demotions, ACA eligible, and other related enrollment activity.
  • Processes FMLA and disability claims and provides direction to managers and employees.
  • Processes, maintains, and communicates to management the hours tracking reports in accordance with ACA.
  • Processes benefit vendor invoices for timely payment, and makes adjustments as necessary in compliance with vendor agreements.
  • Coordinates the processing of COBRA activity with the COBRA administrator vendor in a timely manner and in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Assists in the development of benefit management training and mentoring programs.
  • Provides instruction, direction, and reminders to managers regarding the benefit enrollment process.
  • Assists with annual open enrollment offerings, strategy, communications, and enrollment.
  • Oversees communication and troubleshooting with benefits vendors and employees.
  • Assists with acquisition due diligence and assimilation activity related to benefits.
  • Maintains ACA data, processes annual 1095C (employee forms) and 1094C (IRS e-filing), and maintains a business relationship with the ACA system vendor to keep current with ACA regulations and system changes.
  • Willing to engage in moderate levels of travel.
  • Performs other duties as required.
