About this job

Creates and maintains merchandise and assortment plans and goals based on data analysis and trends. Creates projections and forecasts of retail sales, margins, and average inventory. Monitors the variation between actual results and goals and develops strategies to reconcile the differences. Develops analytical models, systems, and processes to manage, measure, and evaluate retail performance.

Responsibilities

Merchandise and Assortment Planning.

Creates and maintains merchandise plans and goals for assigned categories regarding sales, margin, inventory, and other key metrics. Works closely with Merchandise Buyers to build product lines. Advises and supports decisions on SKU count, assortment, and pricing. Responsible for managing markdowns. Monitors and reports the difference between actual financial results and goals. Develops and establishes ladder plans for multiple product segments.

Merchandise Forecasting and Analysis.

Analyzes historical data, input from stores, current business trends, and management insight to develop accurate item and financial forecasts. Utilizes research and forecasts to identify risks and opportunities. Determines best course of action when business performance deviates from plan. Advises Merchandise Buyers and management on actions required to achieve goals and financial objectives. Develops and provides appropriate business analysis to influence decisions regarding future sales, margin, and inventory. Manages open to buy process ensuring that purchasing decisions are consistent with merchandise plans and goals. Utilizes ladder plans to evaluate performance of various merchandise segments.

Systems and Processes Development

Develops and improves systems and processes used within the department. Develops financial models to support Merchandise planning and analysis. Partners with Information Services, Distribution Center/Logistics, retail operations, and other merchandising groups to create or refine retail reporting and management/control systems.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in Merchandise.
  • Strong analytical skills.
