Overview

Allen College seeks a temporary adjunct faculty to teach math during the Summer Nurse Camp. The first day of camp is June 11, 2018 and summer camp graduation is July 20, 2018. This position is 4-8 hours per week during the camp. In addition, this adjunct team member will be expected to meet in May for approximately two hours with the Camp Program Coordinator to plan camp.

The adjunct faculty reports to the nurse camp program coordinator and will develop and teach a science program and develop a method of monitoring and evaluating students on their progress during the summer nurse camp.

ResponsibilitiesTeaches math to various grade levels using creative and innovative teaching strategies and modalities.Develops a math pre/post-test to access prior student learning and current learning needs.Develops a six week action plan to meet students' needs, and increase retention of the material as determined from the pre-test scores.Facilitates learning of the mathematics for secondary school students in varying grades from 9th through 12th.Engages in activities aimed at improving student retention and performance over the course of the six week camp.Monitors and evaluates the progress and needs of individual students.Counsels and provides individual and group direction and guidance to students.Maintains student tracking data on assignments and test.Provides weekly gradebook updates to program director.Works with other summer camp teachers to facilitate learning themes, assist students in need, and maintain collegiality.Participates in planning meetings.Provides a positive role model and professional attitude toward students and the teach process.Maintains confidentiality in accord with college/program policy.Attends Summer Nurse Camp Graduation.Effectively work with the daily mental and physical stresses of the job which includes, but not limited to: meeting deadlines, attending meetings, completing compliance requirements, meeting and working with staff, faculty, students and the public.Qualifications

Applicant must be qualified to teach mathematics in the State of Iowa.

Applicant must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree in mathematics from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Applicant must have at least two years' of classroom experience working with students.
