Summary:

The Operations Business Controller oversees a broad organization responsible for cost controls, budgeting and forecasting processes, financial analysis and reporting, and accounting procedures for a region with multiple locations from small to large sales volume operations. This position is responsible for developing and implementing company defined financial metrics throughout their area of responsibility as well as the region and takes a lead role in support of one or more of these metrics for the company. The Business Controller is responsible for providing direction and assigning appropriate resources to work with both corporate managers and field managers to accurately evaluate financial risks and returns of potentially new business opportunities as well as identifying and developing cost savings and efficiency gains in existing operations. This position is responsible for evaluating the processes in their area of responsibility, focusing on standardization, simplification and sharing of best practices, as well as performing all other responsibilities as directed by the business or as assigned by Management. This is an exempt position that typically reports to the Sr Dir Operations Finance.

Essential Functions:
  • Sets strategic direction for evaluating the cost/benefit of existing controls and provide direction for the operations in developing new procedures assuring compliance with all corporate policies
  • Provides leadership on internal control matters and directs efforts to maintain appropriate internal control standards including training to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial statements
  • Coordinates the budget and forecast process for the region including review and validation
  • Partners with branch management and other peers to identify income and expense opportunities and implement solutions
  • Supports short- and long-term regional strategies designed to deliver on key financial metrics
  • Provides strong fact based due diligence analysis as a company functional lead in support of new business opportunities
  • Prepares reports and presentations, including developing financial bridges for Senior Management
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance (CPA/MBA preferred); experience in Food and Beverage operations preferred
  • Requires 10 years in financial or business analysis, preferably in a medium to high volume environment
  • Requires an advanced working knowledge of Excel including financial modeling skills (NPV, IRR, cost/benefit, trend analysis)
  • Requires strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to translate financial concepts to operations management
  • Strong business acumen
  • Requires ability to build strong relationships and function well in a heavily matrixed organizational environment, as well as develop strong relationships with external partners including Joint Ventures, sub-tenants, landlords and vendors
  • Requires experience interpreting and commenting on contractual agreements
  • Requires the ability to travel 25%
