Dates of Employment: April 28 - August 30, 2018

Job Focus: The Summer Resident Advisor (SRA) position in Housing and Residential Life is a temporary position during the spring and summer terms only. As an employee, you will be working with spring/summer residents and conference guests. This position requires strong interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as time management and flexibility as this position has a non-traditional work schedule.

Responsibilities*

Assist Spring/Summer Conferences & Guests

* Prepare key cards for conference check in

* Ensure spaces are ready for participants: cleaning rooms before and after camps, shower curtains are hung, supplies are accessible, maintenance issues are reported, and linens made available (if group requested)

* Assist conference administrators with their check in/out processes

* Respond to conference guests' needs

* Community walks of occupied residential space during conferences

* Post-conference, staff members will assess damages, clean rooms, and remove trash and linens from rooms

Assist Spring/Summer Residents:

* Staff Summer Session check in/out

* Provide Door Decorations for each

* Complete Bulletin Board(s)

* Conduct monthly Health & Safety inspections

* Report maintenance concerns and follow up on maintenance requests

* Complete daily community walks & complete duty log

* Facilitate one community development program per month

* Enforce the community living standards by confronting and documenting violations, while modeling personal behavior that is consistent with the Resident's Guide to Community Living at UM-Flint, the Code of Student Conduct, and City, State and Federal Laws

* Support the holistic wellness of students and report all situations that may impact a student

General Responsibilities:

* Serve on call rotation

* Attend weekly staff meetings

* Continuously monitor e-mail for up-to-date information from Professional Staff

* Represent Housing and Residential Life by wearing staff uniform and name badge when working

* Clean/organize Housing and Residential Life spaces (i.e. storage spaces, RA resource room)

* Follow the Code of Student Conduct & the Community Living Standards

* Communicate issues concerns guests, visitors, and/or residents to appropriate staff member.

* Serve as a mandatory reporter (Clery Act) and responsible employee (Title IX) and immediately report related incidents according to federal mandates and university policies.

* Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

* The SRA position is a 20 hour per week position. Compensations is room and board within the assigned residence hall (please consult with the Office of Financial Aid to determine how this may impact your award).

* Candidates must be enrolled as a UM-Flint student at time of application and be for classes for Fall or graduating in August.

* Candidates must have a UM-Flint cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher by May 1st, 2018 and prior to the start of employment. A cumulative and term grade point average of 2.5 must be maintained during the period of employment starting the semester the position is accepted. Grades will be checked each semester prior to, and during employment.

* Candidates must be in good social standing with the University of Michigan-Flint. Status will be verified by the Office of the Dean of Students through a student conduct review.

* Extracurricular and/or work commitments beyond the SRA position and regular class commitments may not exceed 20 hours per week. Any outside commitments must be approved by your supervisor.

* SRA's will attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings.

* SRA's will maintain a standard of personal conduct commensurate with his/her responsibilities.

* SRA's will maintain establishment of primary residence in the assigned room/suite.

* SRA's will perform the duties and meet the expectations described in the manual.

Additional Information

Spring/Summer Conferences: Each spring/summer, a number of groups and individuals come to The University of Michigan-Flint to hold a variety of events. Groups range from middle school aged to adult aged. The groups can be as small as 10 or 15 people and can grow to as large as 750 people. Groups requesting housing will be placed at Riverfront or First Street residence hall. While these guests are utilizing our facility, it is important that we maintain the high standards of accommodations for them.

Spring/Summer Residential Students: The staff in Housing & Residential Life will be committed to an educational approach in order to provide for the most meaningful experience for our residents. One of the key responsibilities of an Summer Resident Advisor is that of a community builder. Community building means getting to know your residents and other staff members, both individually and collectively, by investing time and energy into activities and events that will help facilitate the development of positive and meaningful relationships.
