FUNCTION & SCOPE: Primary responsibilities of this position are the development and implementation of a comprehensive Vendor Quality Program. This includes leading the cross functional Supplier Approval Process, monitoring adherence to Del Monte's Supplier Quality and Food Safety requirements and defining the Supplier Management Strategies for Global Ingredient and Primary Packaging Vendors. This position interacts with vendors, co-manufacturing operations, procurement, marketing, R&D, plant QA, technical services and production planning groups on a frequent basis. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Define and manage the Vendor Approval Process. Ensure all new vendors are approved prior to purchase within the appropriate time frame to deliver new product launch lead time requirements and maximize cost savings opportunities. * Direct team members to assist Procurement and SAP team in assuring that the Quality Management module for Material Master in SAP is correct and current. * Manage the SAR process and hold weekly meetings with Procurement and R&D. Insure the SAR Tracker is updated regularly for FDA compliance. * Maintain supplier ingredient documentation and certificate compliance to support claim substantiation. * Meet with Rabbinical Organizations and IFANCA (Halal certifying Organization) as needed to support the business needs. * Determine vendor compliance to Supplier Verification Program (FSMA) and provide guidance and assure all Vendors will be complaint to the preventive measures as mandated by FDA under FSMA regulations. * Maintain the Approved Vendor List (AVL) for ingredients and primary packaging used in DMFI products. * Define Vendor Quality and Food Safety Expectations for Vendors of new and existing items. * Ensure expectations are communicated to vendors and that they are continually monitored for compliance. * Define DMFI's ingredient monitoring program and utilize data for identifying areas of improvement opportunities. * Establish appropriate metrics in which to identify items and/or vendors that are high risk to DMFI's business continuity and business success for prioritization. * Establish Vendor Management Strategies to define qualification and re-audit frequencies for defined Ingredient/Vendor Categories. * Follow Approval Process for vendor qualification, auditing where necessary. * Assist with strategic elimination of sole sourcing through ingredient consolidation, identification of alternate ingredients, ingredient forms and vendors. * Increase compliance to raw material and finished product specification targets. * Support International and Domestic Co-Manufacturers Supplier Approval Programs to mitigate risk to DMFI's finished goods through Ingredient and Primary Packaging usage for full visibility of our supply chain. * Insure the above are delivered on time, within budget and within spend targets. * On a regular basis report status updates of Supply- Chain Quality Department to Director, Food Safety and Quality and to the Procurement team members. * Lead the Product Database Module implementation and assure Vendor Portal is implemented successfully for use within the organization. * Conduct Vulnerability Assessments for Food Defense compliance. Develop programs and procedure for adherence to the FD module. * Conduct Vulnerability Assessments for Food Fraud and follow up with suppliers on needed mitigation strategies. * Work with R&D in assuring that the Value Engineering ingredients meet the same Quality, Food Safety and Technical requirements as the current ingredient. * Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: * BA/BS in Food Science, Engineering or related field. * Minimum of 7 to 10 years' quality experience in an industrial manufacturing environment; ideal candidates will have more than 10. * Strong working knowledge of quality assurance, food manufacturing, packaging, processing and distribution. * Strong ability to work in cross-functional and team oriented environment with multiple disciplines. * Experience with and in-depth understanding of the Global Food Safety Initiative, Food Drug Act (Title 21) and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). * Proven capabilities in the area of project management. * Self-starter; take charge, positive and proactive attitude. * Easily understands and able to follow directions. * Solid PC skills including a working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word and SharePoint. * Ability to lead several projects altogether and simultaneously. * Detail and process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities. * Ability to communicate clearly within the organization and externally. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to travel 20 -- 40%.
