Position Title: Project Manager

Reports To: Director of Projects and Finance

Appointment Type: Full-time

Schedule and Hours: Varies as necessary

Summary of Position:

As a member of the Project Management Team, in coordination with Development Services Agency (DSA), JobsOhio's Regional Network Partners, and community leaders, this candidate will follow leads and work on economic development projects designed to entice companies to locate and/or retain their businesses in Ohio, resulting in job creation and an increase in capital investment monies.

Duties and Responsibilities

As Project Manager, assists existing Ohio companies expand their business and locate out-of-state & international prospects in order to retain and create jobs and develop capital investments within the state of Ohio:

  • Manages portfolio of projects, responsible for seeing assigned projects from intake and vetting through execution of agreements, ensuring all details are thorough and complete
    • Follows up on leads of possible projects from the Governor's office, Regional Network Partners, members of JobsOhio and as a result of independent research
    • Manage project information in the program pipeline and share with management on a regular basis in various verbal and written report formats,
    • Help to conceptualize and manage improvements to Salesforce in order to adequately manage, track, and report on revitalization projects,
    • Regular communication to applicants in the pipeline to keep projects moving forward,
    • Sound judgment and sense of when to raise awareness of a project:
      • Ability to decipher if and when a project or issue warrants notification both internally and with external partners;

Intake, Vetting and Offers:

  • At the direction of the Director of Projects and Finance and in conjunction with the Managing Directors, meets with existing Ohio companies to assist in expansion strategies or dissuade them from relocating or expanding outside of Ohio;
  • Works closely with businesses to discuss confidential business information (e.g., company financial information and strategic plans);
  • Determines needs of company and identifies viable state and local programs and solutions; evaluates program criteria and policy, analyzes strengths and weaknesses of Project, understand sources and uses of Project
  • Delivers sales pitches (e.g., Ohio's strategic locations, developed infrastructure, and highly educated and motivated workforce) to entice and assist companies in expansion or attraction efforts within Ohio;
  • Creates and makes recommendations to JobsOhio President/Chief Investment Officer, Managing Directors, and Development Services Agency for incentive packages (e.g., business friendly tax structure, loans, grants, and bonds) and negotiations of deals with company officials, community leaders, elected community officials and state agencies;
  • Meets with local agencies, communities and companies as a technical expert on state incentive & financing programs;
  • Acts as an agent for a client company which desires to remain anonymous to provide site and building searches in Ohio;
  • Acts as liaison to connect key decision makers at state, local & business levels to keep deals moving forward;

Application and Approvals:

  • Helps companies through the various application processes, ensures the JobsOhio application is accurate and thorough once submitted;
  • Presents projects before various approval bodies;
  • Reviews agreements for accuracy.

Performs special projects and other duties as assigned:

  • Assists in preparation of briefings for President/Chief Investment Officer, Governor, Lt. Governor and Director of Development Services Agency and other JobsOhio Executive Team members;
  • Represents JobsOhio with various groups (e.g., Governor, Lt. Governor or the Director of Development Services Agency) and at conferences and events:
    • Pitches appropriate business development products offered by JobsOhio and Development Services Agency (e.g., Ohio strategic locations, business friendly tax structure, loans, grants, bonds, developed infrastructure, highly educated and motivated workforce);
    • Performs sales and proactive outreach at trade shows to potential companies.
  • Attends meetings as required.

Extensive travel required (e.g. trips inside Ohio as well as outside of the state and country).

Education and Experience: Prefer bachelor's degree in business, marketing or equivalent degree with one to three years experience in economical development or related field.
