Job Summary

Salt Lake City Water Resource group is seeking a highly talented and creativeIntern that can support project managers with their current and projected workload. Additional staff with help or relieve assignments for roadway work, FEMA work, mining and industrial client assignments. The Salt Lake City AECOM office is staffed by over 100 science and engineering professionals working in a wide variety of technical disciplines, including geotechnical engineering, environmental planning, air quality, water and wastewater treatment, transportation engineering, investigation and remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, solid waste, structural engineering, and construction management.

On a part-time basis, students have a golden opportunity to develop professional skills in a real-world environment that is challenging, diverse, and encourages personal development and career growth. During your internship you will join a project team performing meaningful work under the guidance of highly qualified professionals.

Our internship program is an opportunity for college students to perform meaningful work under the direction of AECOM business managers at our Salt Lake City office. Interns gain valuable work experience and are expected to assume, as much as possible, the role of a regular employee while earning competitive salaries. The program is designed to deliver strategic benefits including:

+ Provide meaningful and consistent internship experiences throughout AECOM business

+ Attract, develop, and retain interns and help them transition into future professional AECOM roles

+ Complement classroom education with "real world" work experience

+ Full-time work during the summer months and part-time work (minimum 12 hours/week) during the school year

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Complete all assigned activities

+ Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures, and rules governing professional staff behavior

+ Adhere to company policies governing the observation of confidentiality and the handling of confidential information

+ Maintain professional relationships with company employees and customers

+ Relate and apply knowledge acquired in the academic setting to the company setting

+ Prepare for and utilize conferences and other learning opportunities afforded in the company

+ Be consistent and punctual in the submission of all assignments to the supervisor

+ Complete a survey evaluation at the end of the internship assignment and provide feedback on the internship experience

Minimum Requirements

+ Currently in pursuit of Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in water/wastewater or other related field required

+ Minimum GPA of 3.0

+ Must have strong mathematical skills and spatial awareness

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

+ Must be able to write and convey thoughts, and organize data in an efficient and clear manner

+ Effectively multitask

+ Willingness to work in multiple engineering and engineering related disciplines

+ Must have good time management skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and most importantly, a strong desire to learn

+ Qualified applicants will be asked to share a technical writing sample prior to interview

+ Due to the nature of this work, U.S. Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

+ Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

+ Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models or other drainage and water modeling software)

+ Ability to work and manage time independently

+ Strong organizational and time management skills

+ Effective oral and written communication skills

+ A university student that has more than one year of school remaining before earning a degree preferred, these students typically are Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors in university. Successful Interns may be eligible to return for additional internships.
